Sony - Panasonic compatibility

I have footage shot on the Sony HVRA1U HDV at 24p (sd). I need to digitize the tape to my edit using my Panasonic HVX200. When I tried playing the tape on my it would not recognize it.

Can anyone tell me if these cameras compatible, am I doing something wrong?

I have a Sony HDR-FX1. In HDV mode it records in mpeg2 transport streaming (M2TS file). I don't believe that the Panasonic can read this format.
If you record a HDV movie on your Sony I doubt that any other camera will be able to play it.
