An HPX-170 Group already exist on Vimeo.com for posting your test footage and films in HD. I am hoping that HPX-170 users will not only post their tests and films but also take the time to discuss their new experiences with the camera. If you already have a Vimeo account and have uploaded footage feel free to add it to the group.

(10/02/08) Update on the HD embed features of Vimeo: Beta testing of the Vimeo Plus features has started today. One of the features I'm looking forward to is the ability to embed and stream HD clips externally. Meaning you will be able to embed, for a price, Hi-Def quality video on sites such as your blog, web site, forums, and other sites that may allow it. The Plus feature of Vimeo will be available very soon.

I get mine Thursday and I'm shooting a music video with the 170 and redrock this weekend, so you'll see a lot of stuff from me very soon.

I really like Vimeo as I love high def, but there's one problem: they only show 720p at 24 frames/sec.

I understand the widespread desire to make video look like film, but it's just not my thing. I want to work in 720p 30 (fps). And it doesn't seem like I'll be able to see test footage of the 170 at that setting.

Any links to test footage at that setting would be most appreciated.

Vimeo use to allow 720p HD at 30fps when they first introduced the HD feature. But since then they have found, in order to make things all around more efficient for everyone's computers but also to keep HD standards as high as possible, that 720p HD at 24fps will be their highest quality for now.

"We chose 24P for now because in our tests most computers can barely do 25fps. Flash is really bad at choosing which frames to drop, so video on average looks a lot smoother at 24fps than 30fps." - Andrew Pile

I am a big fan of Vimeo, and really like the high def footage they've opened to me (and the rest of the world).

But I hate flash, hate that I can't download and keep the good footage / movies I want, hate the lack of control the viewer has to tolerate. It's great that it (now) incorporates H.264, but it's bad if it's no good at frame rate dropping.

There's a big market of people out there who have capable machines, and turning the computer into a real high def player is going to be a killer ap. But hosts and software that impose bandwidth limits (even if those limits are far higher than YouTube) still aren't going to hold viewers that want true high def.

Quicktime in 30fps, 720p, which only have to be downloaded once - there's a dream. Need to sell commercials? Put them in the beginning... Just my 2 cents.
