This is just an idea... I thought I'd throw it out there...

As I understand it, the file format for festival submission is .MOV...

Personally, I would LOVE to watch the entries using my Apple TV on my 37" HDTV rather than on my computer monitor. But, unfortunately, the Apple TV wont just play MOV files, you have to do a second h.264 export out of Quicktime Pro using the Apple TV preset that creates M4V files.

Of course I can't expect everyone to have the same set up as I do, but i know that everyone should at least have iTunes... which will play these files just as well as Quicktime. What would you guys think of having the option of submitting M4V's? That way I wouldn't have to convert every single film to watch it on my TV.

What if we don't have Quicktime Pro (I do, I'm just saying)

Will you buy it for everyone?

Yes.

and by Yes i mean... not really.

However, I'm not suggesting that this be the only means of uploading... just an option...

I voted stop being lazy and convert them yourself. :)

I like the idea in principle, but I think encoding is enough of a sticking point for some members that changing would cause undue stress. For what it's worth the first thing I've done the last couple of fests is load every entry into Compressor and do a batch convert to AppleTV format for my own viewing. Not that hard, and doesn't take a lot of time. The people who know how to do it and care, can without being a burden on everyone else.

Ooh, I like that idea for batch converting! I'm gonna steal that from ya!
