I was thinking it would be great to have a festival where everyone submits a film based on the same script. What does everyone think?

I am pretty sure that would be a terrible idea.

Would you really want to watch 30 films with the same idea and script? I personally wouldn't enter and certainly wouldn't watch.

I don't see how you could even showcase one's talent. There are only so many ways a scene can be played.

Sorry mate - I don't think this is a good idea at all. And I think we debate it every year. And these fests are meant to be generally open to all ideas.

I never really thought about the fact you would have to watch 30 of the same movie. Maybe even just including a semi obscure line of dialogue that everyone has to use in their film??

interesting concept but sounds boring. coming up with a unique script is half the battle

Been there, done that. It was not our most successful DVXFest.

Kind of curious to see the outcome... but not worth going through all the trouble.

Perhaps have the option of three scripts. With 3 different Genres. And every entry must have something unique in it.

I think a couple people should use the same script, but not have it as a requirement.

I'd agree the idea isn't that great, but you just kind of short handed the role of a director. Sure you could showcase one's talent. There are MANY ways to play out a scene. Many, many, many.

That is where I was coming from. I think it was more a personal challenge for me then anything else. For the longest time I have wanted to shoot a script I didn't write to go at it with a fresh pair of eyes. Lately all my shorts have sucked hard because by the time shooting rolls around I am tired of the story. Maybe I just need better stories...?

Maybe this is would be better suited for a film challenge, get a few people to go in on it with a script written by someone not partaking. Hmm.

Anyone interested.

This could be interesting if everyone started of with the very same, very generic (as to allow for expanding the story), first and/or second pages. Then had to write the rest of the script themselves. It would be cool to see how everyone interprets those first two pages, and where the writers would take the story.

A great way to showcase one's creative writing ability, I think.
