They're filming now. What I'm excited about is the budget: $7 million. Their smallest budget since Fargo (also $7 mil). And they've only made 2 movies with smaller budgets: their first two. Raising Arizona was 6 and Blood Simple was 1.5. To put it in perspective, Burn After Reading was 37, No Country was 25, Ladykillers was 35, Intolerable Cruelty was 60...
Its refreshing to see. Their newest movie was their biggest opening weekend ever. The movie before that won 4 Oscars. And they follow it up with one of their smallest budgets ever. Very cool I think.
I'd like to see some other big time directors work with smaller budgets. What kind of movies would we get out of Spielberg or Scorsese with budgets under $10 million?

To answer to that comment about Speilberg, I bet he would do an amazing job if given very few resources. Doing big things with low budget movies is actually his trademark.
Jaws - Budget: $7million, Gross: $470million
Raiders - Budget: $18million, Gross: $384million
Schindler's List - Budget: $22million, Gross: $321million
He'd do a fine job...so would Martin S. for that matter. Looking forward to seeing what this film brings.

Yeah I am pumped about this movie! Small budget hell yes! It should be really interesting to see what they churn out considering their last few projects have had higher budgets than normal.
I actually not so sure about Spielberg though, those movies were made ages ago, 7mill in 1975 is tons more than it is now, even 22mil in 1993 is a lot of cash. Id love to see him try, would he still go with his usual route of sfx/vfx or would he concentrate more on telling a story instead?

That's what Scorsese did with "After Hours".
It was after "The King of Comedy" though, which was a flop.

I'm sure they'd both make great films. I just don't think they'd do it.
Scorsese's last 8 budgets: 90,116,97,32,28,52,34,35
Spielberg's last 8 budgets: 185,75,132,60,52,102,90,70
Its the same with big time actors. You'd never see Tom Hanks or Tom Cruise or Will Smith doing a small budget movie. Why not?
The Coens are an exception: Big time directors who like to make a little film every now and then. I think its refreshing. And I'd like to see more directors of their stature doing it. I think its good for the filmmaking community.

That's what Scorsese did with "After Hours".
Exactly. After Hours was $4.5 million. And it came on the heels of three fairly big budget Scorsese's. But like you said, it followed a flop. So he probably didn't have a choice but to do a small film.
I'd like to see what he'd do now after three successful $100 million movies.
(by the way, there are 3 Coen Bros movies on the front page of the Film Discussion board)

Yeah, even when they're bad, they're good.

Except for "The Ladykillers." That was just bad.

this is very good! Can't wait to see it!
Also marks the return of the great Roger Deakins!!! something that was clearly missing from Burn After Reading....
