720p on Mini DV and P2

Hey guys,
Maybe I am a complete idiot, but since you guys can't see my face and make fun of me in person I will throw it on a forum and take the written mockery... Okay so, can I shoot 720p on mini DV tapes or do I have to use P2 cards for the HD footage?
If I can shoot 720p on mini DV tapes will the footage match that of the 720p on P2 cards? I only have one card and could use tapes as the 16gb dumps (as long as the footage matches).

No 720P on tape. Only 480, SD.

You have to shoot it on the p2 card first and then dub it to mini dv but it is downconverted so it will not look as good.

Right. It will be 480 downconverted from the 720p. You won't have 720p footage on the tape if that is what you were thinking.
