I haven't seen this posted anywhere yet so I thought I'd let you guys know that the User Manual for the HMC-152 is available from the Australian Panasonic Website here: http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=4728
(http://panasonic.com.au/products/details.cfm?objectID=4728)
For the direct link click here: http://panasonic.com.au/content/library/files/F002212.pdf

The 152 is the same as the 150 essentially but it is the PAL version.

Finally does anyone think that you would be able to modify the PAL version to record at 60p as well as 50p? I doubt this, so I'm tossing up between an NTSC version and a PAL version at the moment.

Hope this satisfies some of your curiosities!

According to this catalog (link below), the HMC 151 E (european version) will do 60i/60p, 50i/50p, 30p, 25p and 24p. I fear that may be too good to be true, but here's hoping.

It would be great if we had 60p!!! in australia (at least after reading the manual) it doesn't look like....

in the end it wouldn't be a bad move for them, cause if the main reason of not having that option in the US is the market I don't think that many US people will buy it here.......... That could be areason to imply it here and not there. Just guessing......

well after having a look in the panasonic europe web I found this other leaflet......

http://www.panasonic-broadcast.com/en/products/high-definition/avccam/AG-HMC150series.pdf
it doesn't say anything bout 60p.... but note that in the first page in the upper part where it says hmc150 series the hmc151 isn't mentioned........so who wants to keep on guessing......

Yes, I noticed the same thing. It looks like there just might be the 150 (NTSC), the 152, 153 and 154 (PAL for different distribution parts of the world) and, if we're lucky, a dual PAL/NTSC 151 version which they're keeping rather quiet about on the european website - there's info there but nothing technical.

If you read the 152 manual you will notice that it only supports 25P and 50P :(
Wonder what the price is gonna be for PAL version in the US. I once bought PAL version of DVX100 from B&H (because of it's superior vertical resolution) and it was much more expensive than NTSC one...

Sounds like it's illegal to sell any video that you shoot with this camera (p.12), unless you get a license from the AVCHD patent holders. Skimming the hard-to-read patent holders' terms (http://www.mpegla.com/avc/AVC_TermsSummary.pdf), it sounds like the license is free if the video is under 12 minutes. Else it's 2 cents.

But I'm sure that the end format won't be avchd so...........

In the pdf i read on the 151 it gives very detailed info about being switchable. They talk about how you have to use a different card for 60Hz and 50Hz.
And how at 30p its 24p native but at 25p it's native. Can't remember what other interesting stuff i read. will try find the link to it.

thats kind of messed up- I'm sure its an official statement required by nervous lawyers that would most likely never be enforced but how does a statement like this affect the target market for this cam:

wedding video
court video
and to say that you can't hand the card over to the client's editor and get paid for it? And if its 13 minutes you have to cut a 2 cent check to AVCHD patent holder? Would anyone actually follow that, NO- but in principle its wrong...wreeeaaaong!

What if you wanted to do a training video for the camera and workflow and included the PRIVATE folder from the SD card- 2 cents for every copy you sell?
