Hi All,
I couldn't think of where to put this question, but since I'll be monitoring AE, I figured someone here might be able to help.

My graphics card has HDMI out, so I was thinking about either using a Sony broadcast LCD or an HDTV to monitor my After Effects work for accuracy.

In standard def I'd want to go to a monitor Component so that I'm looking at things YUV, but for HD I'd go HDMI and the signal would stay digital.

I know people monitor HD on broadcast monitors, but for what reason? As I understand it, HDMI can be RGB or YUV, but I'd be feeding it an RGB signal from the computer. In this case is it just acting as a lower-res computer monitor? At work we go SDI to a Cinetal, and the signal is really clean, but I don't know if it's representative of what you'd get if you played it on a TV since it's really high-res. Any info would be helpful. Thank you!

My thoughts...within current price restrictions...broadcast monitors for color accuracy, LCD's for detail, sharpness, focus, etc.

Although, I feel that paradigm is shifting and there are some excellent low cost LCD options out now, I'm especially curious to take a look at HP's new Dream Color display.

You can get a BlackMagic Intensity card that is HDMI only for 300$ or so.

I'm running on a Multibridge Pro 2, and its 4:2:2 Y/PB/CR output , and NOT 4:4:4 RGB from HDMI.

Its nearly impossible for me to tell the difference though. I do have a 4:4:4 output from the HD-SDI.

My reference monitors are 24" only. I'm guessing you might see a difference if you were editing in a huge theatre display. (100" inches)
