View Full Version : Low Audio Level on HVX

I always check my levels on the display whilst I'm recording interviews, but for some reason even though they look fine on screen and sound fine in my headphones, as soon as I bring them into my NLE (Edius) I end up having to really crank the sound up. It is consistently too quiet - this is with shotgun or lav.
Anyone got any suggestions?

I too, always find that I'm a few db's down. Even when I line up using tones from my mixer. But the levels that I output back to the camera from FCP line up exactly suggesting that the camera and meters are tracking correctly.
I think that the meters on the HVX are hard to follow particularly when concentrating on the shot and I have started to line up at the higher -12db instead of -18db.
I get the occasional peak but the recorded level is much better.
I have to say that since I had the beeping issue sorted by Panasonic the sound quality of the HVX is superb and even if you do have to crank the level up in FCP (or Edius) the recording can handle it easily.

Beeping issue? was that proprietary to you?

The beeping issue is a known fault with some HVX cameras. Panasonic will rectify the problem under warranty but won't tell us what caused the problem.
The problem was that when recording to the P2 cards there was a feint beep audible in the headphones. I thought that it also recorded the beep but others said it was just in the monitoring circuit. The beep stopped when recording was paused.
There are threads about this if you do a search.
