we are recording the voice overs for my Twilight Fest entry and I can't think of a good way to describe a drug addict. Basically the crack head is overdosing.

this is what I have now:
V.O.
The disease Ravaged
drug addict that lost
everything blindly chasing
the ultimate high.

I just can't think of anything that is descriptive. I like the words hunger, ravenous, appetite, thirst, I just can't put anything good together.

Any help would be appreciated.:dankk2:

He spent ten years obsessed with finding the ultimate high, and now is alone with his sickly and ravaged body. His paranoia is his only thought, and the hope of death his only comfort.

Get a paper, make 3 columns. At the top of each column write down 3 main words.

1.ADDICT 2. Drugs 3.Sick

Then take each column at a time and write down the first words that come to mind.
You will see how you eventually come back to a common theme. This is a professional technique that works!

Watch "Intervention" and a lot of ideas will pop into your head.

Haggard, gaunt, sallow, thrashed, tweaked...

There was a cop web site, I can't remember the name, that compared perp photos of those first arrested for meth use and then later a few years. The newer photos seemed to age the meth users 20-30 years.

Search for that and it may help.

I can tell you that an addict is truly chasing the experience of his/her first high... There's an emptyness, a void that needs to be filled and this is what the chase is all about. It's more powerful then words can describe, it's more emotional and meaningful then one's first memory as a child, more valuable then life itself. It sucks being an addict, it sucks watching a friend, a relative, a loved one struggle with that endless pain.

When an addict overdoses and makes it through, most of the time they write it off as "bad stuff" or something ridiculous like that but they rarely look at the reality of the situation. They're killing themselves in attempts to find something they'll never rediscover.

Long story short, if your going to depict drug usage in a film, and not look like an idiot, consult an actual addict or steady user first and spend a couple hours with them if possible.

Where I'm From addicts are just part of the landscape. Thanks for all of the ideas. I watched intervention last night got some good ideas.

Ahhh, hehe. I guess what I was trying to say, and it wasn't directed at anyone in particular, was that there is a human side to attics which is often overlooked in vids.
I didn't pick my words very well but that was the idea.

Glad to see it worked out though.
