Both look cool, although Saw 5's trailer was kinda weak. Maybe for a reason, cause I've seen these sorta trailers before.

Quarantine looks neat as well.

Thoughts?

Well, saw both of these films. I don't know which I like better.

The style of the film in Quarantine was outstanding, and the acting was great. Saw 5, also, was outstanding, especially the editing.

The new rigs and traps were VERY clever.

What's your thoughts on these films?

Caught 'Saw V' on opening night, and gotta say I was a tad disappointed. Didn't like the generous use of flashbacks and found the traps a bit lack-lustre. In short, it was too much 'CSI' and not enough 'Se7en', and didn't have enough gore for my personal tastes. :D

'Quarantine' on the other hand really caught my attention. It took a while to start, and I found the main actress really annoying, but wow, I really enjoyed it, even up till the...ending (no spoilers here!).

I went to see Saw 5 with no expectations, I haven't seen any of the previous ones and don't much care for the mindless guts/horror genre, but found this movie to be (as a stand alone flick) pretty enticing. I still don't like the blood and gore stuff too much (except the explosion death... very nice) but seeing limbs or whatnot get cut up and mangled... just doesn't do anything for me but turn my stomach. However, the anticipation of catching the guy, the fact that the storyteller doesn't hide the identity of the bad guys, all very intruiging concepts. Sure everyone knows who the evil doer is in a superhero flick, or if the only part they have is the bad person... but to hide your identity from the police, the victims, etc and reveal to the audience? It's interesting...
Still not planning to see the first 4 in this series, but I might catch the next one (come on, they will probably make these until the director dies) and that's not a spoiler either!

Just saw quarantine. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. Acting was on point. Gore was great. Just a well made horror flick. Had me jumping.

I am sick of "live hand-held camera" films. Cloverfield, Quarantine... damn it.

IMO, REC is superior to Quarantine, maybe because I watched it first, but nevertheless. Quarantine has way too much rack focusing, bluring and too dark parts. I guess they wanted to make it look 'more realistic'.

SAW 5 is yet on the list to be wathced!

I agree with Mile about .REC being better than Quarantine, I think they would have been better off to Dub the original in english rather than going the "english remake" route. (as long as they did a good job on the dubbing, ie. "Brotherhood of the Wolf / Les Pacte des loups")

It seems not very much... just google a list of upcoming and in production movies, the percentage of that list that is made of remakes/tv to movie/video game or comic to movie/sequels/etc. is getting ridiculous. I think Hollywood is finally running out of ideas lol

I didn't like Saw 5 too much. It was well executed. But It almost felt like watching someone beat up an old lady and there was nothing you could do about it. I'm old school, I like happy endings or at least leave the theater with a smile. I felt feeling pissed.

Quarantine however was pretty good. Very suspenseful. I actually enjoyed it knowing I'm not a big fan of handheld footage. It worked. Though there wasn't a happy ending which I already anticipated so I let this one slide.

Saw had five changes to turn the tables but they never did. It was the same thing again.

I'm sure that will be the plot for Saw VI.
