Anyone catch his debut on CNBC?

Nothing terribly original, but it sure seemed like they were having more fun than you normally see in that format.

And who doesn't love Johnny Mac? Come on . . . you know you do . . .

His wife wasn't doing herself any favors behind the microphone in her featured song, though . . .

Personally, I can't stand Johnny Mac. Well, I don't have anything against him as a person or as a tennis player, but I can't stand him as a commentator. He's often derogatory to players for no reason. I remember watching a match between El Aynaoui and someone else--I think it was either Agassi or Roddick. John just went on and on about how El Aynaoui had no chance, bla bla bla, just negative bullshit. Anyone who follows tennis knows that Younes El Aynoui is a really solid player and has a damn good shot to beat anyone on a given day. At the Roland Garros final this year, right from the get go, John was saying that Gaudio had no shot against Coria and that Gaudio was mentally weak and didn't believe in himself. Well, Gaudio lost the first two sets, came back, saved two match points and won the championship. Come on, that's some serious mental toughness there. I've also heard him bitch on air about having to cover women's tennis because it cut into a pre-recorded segment he'd done. Maybe he's trying to live up to his brash image, but I just think he comes off as a jerk. I'd rather he stop doing commentary.

I like Patrick McEnroe as a commentator though. He gives players their props and actually has insightful comments. He'll be critical too, but not just for the sake of being a jerk. Patrick turned out to be a much better Davis Cup coach than his brother as well.

That said, John's an intelligent guy. Hopefully the show will be better than his tennis commentary.
