Okay, so I have been holding off on buying any of the LOTR Platnum editions because I was thinking that once the third one came out, they would probably package them all together for a cheaper price, or maybe even with a disc that you could only get with the set.

I'm starting to get antsy though, I have only seen them each once, and I want to see them again, should I just rent them and wait it out? I had this discussion with a buddy and he said that he doubts they will do the set with all three. So maybe I should buy the first 2 platnums, and then the third when it comes out.

Comments? Suggestions? Anyone heard anything?

All three extended length is 150 bucks, but they may do it. Other rather pricey sets cost as much, and they are talking about the original Star Wars trilogy coming it at a major price point, way above normal.

Still, I have imagined having a LOTR session with all movies, back to back. I would have to get a colostomy bag to make it work though.

Oh come on! Standard edition, full screen. Standard edition, widescreen. Extended edition. Extended edition with a bookend. Trio of all three standard editions, widescreen. Trio of all three standard editions, full screen. Versions packaged with books. I'm sure I'm missing some...

Do you really doubt that there'll be a 3-pack of the extended editions? I have no doubt at all!

There will be, but I haven't minded buying them separately (I haven't bothered with the 2-disc sets). I didn't need the bookends, though.

LOL, I'm sure they'll release a 6-pack of the extended versions and the theatrical versions and some fanatics will buy them just to get a different box.

Maybe the 4-extended edition set (LOTR + Upcoming Hobbit) can include a special commemorative chamberpot for slapdragon...

It's a foregone conclusion there will be a definitive trilogy edition platinum SE someday. For comparison- just look at this:

Oh no, now it's the 16-pack with the 3 LOTRs and Hobbit in theatrical and extended version both in SD and HD, plus the Slapdragon chamberpot and special bonus, "The Making of the Slapdragon Chamberpot".

I hope they have a VHS version with the commemorative chamberpot...

You kno what pisses me off about DVD's these days? The fact that they release a DVD with plans to re-release the same DVD but with better features (Bonuses). When I purchased LOTR 3 they even have a SNEAK PREVIEW of the DVD to come for LOTR 3.

When I bought Mystic River less than a week later they release a MR DVD with all kinds of Bonuses. Damn, just do it right the first time.

I can name at least two people I know personally who will.

I bought Memento a couple years ago - the original Canadian DVD was the movie, and the ability to go to a menu page that showed you the order the movietook place in chronologically. That was it.

Two weeks later, they come out with the two disc set with apparently tons of bonus materials, a commentary, etc. And the place I got it was selling it for the exact same fuckin price that I spent two weeks earlier. The version I got was on sale half price, of course.

I feel your pain John...

I'd like be able to say I don't know anyone like that--but I do ;D

I'm amazed at the concept that EVERYTHING is collectable now.

Soon to appear on eBay:

"Collectable Liz Tyler Elfin Chamberpot" :o

I've been buying the Platinum sets of the LOTR movies, and am waiting for the ROTK version to come out. Anyone know when that will happen?
