Does anyone have any problem when clicking on the huge logo at the top of the page DVXuser.com?

http://66.225.229.195/dvxlogo.gif

When I click on THAT specific link it defaults to some weird search engine ad page. Anyone?

Yes I do and I cant fucking find it. I got a brand new computer and already found one that I got rid of called "INternet Optimizer" which was conveniently renamed WSEN UPDATE. I found it removed it and all is good....

BUt......

THere is another one (ADWARE) that I cant locate. THese damn companies that do this dont realize the pain in the ass they cause. What makes them think IM going to use thier GHETTO ASS search engine that takes me to SALES stuff and not INFO.

Sigh...

Alright, tks. Ill find it.

Yes. The adware people are fun. What cracks me up are the companies that are signed up with these guys. Like major companies. Man o man.

You might try this free app, Ad-aware, to scan your system:

http://www.download.com/3000-2144-10045910.html?part=69274&subj=dlpage&tag=button

Also, do you have kids that use you computer? That's a quick way to get all sorts of junk loaded onto your computer.

Barry_Green

You've used ad-aware to remove it, right?

Phil

I use adaware every day and I still get the "The page cannot be found." sign??

Oh well.

Yeah . . . why would virus/adware creators trifle with 10% of the market . . . ::)

McAfee's anti-spyware runs in real time. If a spyware program is trying to load on your computer it will stop it before it installs. It's kind of cool.

Ain't so good for a rendering machine, though.

sptbot search and destroy gets things ad-aware misses. I highly recommend it. download it, update it, run it. just watch out for the advanced mode. You can mess up your computer if you dont know what you're doing (but it creates backups). It also has an option to run something to watch what gets downloaded and installed on-the-fly (TeaTimer).

Im doing Ad-Aware right now.

Symantec removed a boat oad of them but requires me to do MANUAL removal in the reigstry which is always fun. Lets hope this AD AWARE can do that better!

And regarding the PC/MAC debate - Who cares.

TylerGred

Rocketscience is right though. You should run Spybot on your machine. It's been shown to be more powerful than Ad-aware.

Alright

Did the following:

Ad-Aware
Spybot
Registry Cleaner

Now the DVXUSER>COM Logo does what its suppossed to. Pop-ups have literally seized (Except for the standard ones that some websites like to use such as msnbc.com and playboy.com :D )

ONe issue still remains that is not that dramatic and it is the search window. IT opens up some BS search engine instead of the usual msn search toolbar. Anyway thanks for the help everyone. It all worked very well!

David Jimerson

Are you on XP home or Pro? Pro has a pop-up blocker.

Where is this located?

Look to set up your Internet Firewall -- it's in the Help.

It won't stop pop-ups from web pages you intentionally visit (like news sites, etc.), but it will stop pop-ups that aren't initiated in any way by you.

Google toolbar has a good pop-up blocker.

HansK

As was just mentioned, the Google toolbar for IE has a popup blocker builtin. Very nice addition to IE.

But, I would recommend installing Mozilla Firefox as your browser instead. That's what I have been using. The tabbed browsing support is so simple an addition but very handy.

There is actually actions like that in the courts. Called hijacking, it is early yet. Really, it depends on how much you are actually damaged.

Spybot and AdAware are great programs. Justa run a scan once a week and you will stay "clean". Can't wait to get those new G5's! 8)

Here's the link for a really powerful program, Hijackthis:

http://www.nawsct.com/hijackthis.exe

it's a quick scan program that tells you every program that runs when you start your computer, along with all the stupid .dll and internet explorer add-ins. When you run it, it scans all the places known spyware and adware hang out, like the registry...

The single best way to make things better is take the time, go to http://www.mozilla.org, and download yourself the new version of Mozilla (at the time of this writing, 1.6), or the even-newer, lighter, faster Firefox (for something without email clients and stuff built in- just pure browser). Just like how the large bulk of virii are written for windows, the large bulk of spy/adware are written for IE. Change your browser, and graduate to safer browsing.

read this too...

Oh. Also. If you get those BS search pages.. (sponsered search pages) and spybot doesnt catch it, then it is probably something that was installed (not intentionally). Go to add/remove programs and scan for things you dont recognize. Esp if it says '.. search..' , then remove it.

Whats up with Mozilla? People actually use this? (Im not being a dickhead here; I have only HEARd about it and know nothing about it).

What can you guys tell me about it? Is this something to take away from the Corp Giant of Microsoft?

TylerGred

I downloaded Mozilla, but I couldn't get into the swing of it. It's sort of like trying to go from Premiere Pro to Vegas. Everyone tells me to try Vegas, but I just can't get use to the layout of it.

If memory serves me correct, in their dying days, Netscape decided to go open-source and give away their code. The non-profit Mozilla Foundation was born and with donations from users and AOL, mozilla.org was born. It seems nobody is trying to make any money off of mozilla, just a better browser that is free. No wonder Bill Gates doesn't want you to use it. :P

everyone i know uses mozillia, i use it all the time. I really love that instead of opening new windows you just open new tabs in the same window. Plus you can download skins for it.

J.R. Hudson

Whats the issue with opening new windows? ONe can just ALT / TAB between them. How does Mozilla handle switching between windows? Must one click the tabs or are there shortcuts?

Don't even use exploit/pop-up ridden Internet Explorer, use Mozilla Firefox instead. I've been using both Firefox and Thunderbird (e-mail) for a while now and they both work great. Thunderbird has the best and most convenient spam filter that I have found. The tabable feature in Firefox is very cool for surfing multiple pages at once. I just click between tabs. I haven't looked for a shortcut

i've just started using firefox. I like its small size. The tabs are nice too. I program for IE all day, so I'm kind of sick of looking at it. And programming for it. Firefox is a nice change, if nothing else. It will import your favorites should you wish to try it.
