A client sent me tons of video on DVCPRO tape, by mistake. When I told them I have a Sony deck and I can't even play the video, they suggested I rent a DVCPRO deck and ingest the video into Vegas.

Before I tell them Vegas won't accept DVCPRO files, I wanted to make sure with the experts on this forum that I'm not missing something.

I don't lnow if there's an easy way to convert DVCPRO files for use in Vegas. I'm leaning towards just asking them to put their video on DV tape and send it back to me.

Any other ideas or comments?

If you can solve the problem yourself without having to make the client jump through further hoops, you'll have a happier client, which is always a good thing.

You should be able to rent a DVCPRO deck and ingest the tapes through firewire, right? I don't know for sure whether Vegas would control a DVCPRO deck but I'd be shocked if it won't.

The DVCPRO codec is the same as the DV codec so there shouldn't be a problem there.

And, if worse comes to worst, and you simply can't get Vegas to control the deck, you could use the rented deck to firewire dub over to DV and then import from there...

that's what I'm not sure of...the DVCPRO deck going directly into Vegas. I've heard others say it won't work. I guess I'll make some calls tomorrow.

thanks....keep the client happy!
