anybody seen this? it came on tv last night and when i saw that harvey keitel and de niro were in it, i thought for sure it would be good.. oh also scorseses ...

anyways, this was one of the most boring, ridiculous movies i've ever seen. worse than the deer hunter ahahhahahah..

but seriously. their fake accents were terrible. they were WAY too polite. i think the worst crimes they commited were lighting off illegal fire crackers. nothing really made sense. i couldnt even finish it.

pathetic!!!!!

de niro was cute tho. heh.

Damn it

The Deer Hunter is amazing !

I liked Man Streets for what it was. I agree, not as good as I presumed it would either.

I think the sensatoin at the time, is that that kind of film hadn't been done; a personal, gritty, street film.

hehehehhe. ya i threw in that deer hunter comment to ruffle a few feathers, glad it worked. heh.

i hear what you're saying. i watched it right after good fellas so there was also a lot of comparison going on in my mind......

it was just so stupid tho man. like when they have that huge fist fight in the bar. and then when its over they have a drink like nothing happened. or how friggin polite they were! when that one guy was looking for de niro's character and found his cousin theresa and grabbed her and she dropped her groceries. he apologized and picked them up. yet he's gonna break that guys legs?! man.. so silly....

There's some classic dialogue in this movie, though. My friends and I are always quoting it--

Jimmy: Mook? I'm a mook?
Joey 'Clams' Scala: Yeah
Jimmy: What's a mook?
Johnny Boy: A mook, what's a mook?
Tony DeVienazo: I don't know...
Johnny Boy: What's a mook?
Jimmy: You can't call me a mook!
Joey 'Clams' Scala: I can't?
Jimmy: No...
Joey 'Clams' Scala: [pause] I'll give you mook!
[punches Jimmy in the face]

Johnny Boy: You see, I borrow money all over this neighborhood, left and right from every BODY, I never pay them back. So, I can't borrow no money from nobody no more, right? So, who would that leave me to borrow money from but you? I borrow money from you, because you're the only jerk-off around here who I can borrow money from without payin' back, right? You know, 'cause that's what you are, that's what I think of you: a jerk-off.

Johnny Boy: Y'know Joey Clams...
Charlie: Yeah.
Johnny Boy: ...Joey Scallops, yeah.
Charlie: I know him too, yeah.
Johnny Boy: ...yeah. No. No, Joey Scallops is Joey Clams.
Charlie: Right.
Johnny Boy: Right.
Charlie: ...they're the same person!
Johnny Boy: Yeah!
Charlie: 'ey!
Johnny Boy: 'ey...

Johnny Boy: That Weibntraub girl?...Very nice, very nice, I wanna bang her like crazy.

i thought mean streets was a great film by a filmmaker just beginning to find his voice.

Same here. I also dig Who's That Knocking At My Door? It's not Scorsese's best work, not by a long shot, but I love the characters and the performances, and it definitely has the Scorsese style, even that early on.

what? didn't like. I can seehow you don't love, but there is respect here.

I think the characters come off as want to be criminals and their harmless crimes are the worst they can mutter (till the end) in their small existence...
