What, are they going to sully the memory of that classic, Ghostbusters 2?

I heard that there is a new Ghost Busters video game coming out that was supposed to be the official sequel to the two films.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ghostbusters:_The_Video_Game
Ghostbusters: The Video Game (Plot Description from Wikipedia)
The game's storyline is being written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, the writers of the original films. They, along with Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, will also lend their voices and likenesses to the game. Several supporting cast members, such as William Atherton (Walter Peck), Brian Doyle-Murray (as the new mayor of New York) and Annie Potts (Janine) have also signed on; however, Rick Moranis (Louis Tully) declined to be a part of the game, explaining his reluctance to work after the death of his wife and being a single parent. Sigourney Weaver (Dana Barrett) also declined to be a part of the game.[citation needed]
The player is inserted into the story as a new rookie Ghostbuster. On the PS3, Xbox 360, and PC versions, the game's associate producer Ryan French is the model for the character - a caucasian male with short, shaved brown hair with the name "Rookie" on his name tag. On the Wii, PS2 and DS versions, the character's hair is blond and longer than in the other versions.
The events of the game occur during Thanksgiving 1991, two years after the events in Ghostbusters 2. Players portray a new recruit hired to test Egon Spengler and Ray Stantz's new equipment, during a recent rise of paranormal activity. Along the way, players battle ghosts from the films, such as Vigo, Slimer, Gozer, and Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.:(
At least the original writers are involved with the game. Should help make it authentic to the style of the films.
As for a third film, I don't know about anyone else, but after Indy 4 I say let the 80's sequels RIP. Although, I can see Ghost Busters making the transition to today's filmmaking style much better than Indiana Jones did. Computer animation in place of the practical effects from the first films should work well for a new Ghost Busters film as well.
As for the new film, why are they going with different writers if Ramis and Aykroyd wrote the first two films and are now writing the game's story, yet they aren't writing the third film's script?

I didn't think Ghost Busters 2 was that bad, actually still a lot of fun. It definitely wasn't up to the standard of the original.
I'm not too optimistic of any of these sequels that come out like 20 years after the original being even remotely able to feel like they fit with the first ones. Although a direct remake of the first film would be worse.
For example -- a terrible thought just popped into my head. What if a remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark came was produced instead of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull?

Lack of creativity and original ideas? Or trends? I can picture studio execs in an office, smoking big cigars and saying "What's big right now? Rambo 4, Rocky 4 and Indiana Jones 4 all made a bunch of money? Let's bring the '80s back! Steve, have one of the interns figure out which '80s movies should have a new sequel, and which ones need to be re-made! We're going to continue to be millionaires! I think I just saved Hollywood."

The same reason they always do. So a few ceo's can reanimate a dead corpse to make some money. If it's the actors' decision, then it's to reanimate their dead career to make some money. Either way it's about money and corpses.

Just wait until they exhaust all the 80's stuff and get to the 90's remakes.
Since they're reviving all these 80's flicks, then I've got a couple killer ideas for a third Predator and a new Aliens film (no Alien vs. Predator crap, keep 'em separate). 20TH Century Fox -- are you listening? Hello. PM me.

Yeah, because they've already overdosed on zombies. But in a few years, maybe 4 or 5 from now, I'm sure we'll see some zombie films. They're like vampires, aliens, werewolves, etc. They'll never die off completely. Both onscreen and off.
One thing I'd like to see is a zombie TV series. Maybe just called The Living Dead, as in the Romero films. Get a good writing and producing team on it and air it on HBO, FX, or the Sci-fi Channel.
Anyone ever heard of a comic book called The Walking Dead (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Walking_Dead)? I just got the first collected series from Amazon recently. I haven't sat down to read it yet, but I have skimmed through it. Looks promising. I figure some of the zombie fans here might want to check it out.

If having the original cast wasn't possible as main roles....Steve Carell actually sounds like a decent idea, as does Seth Rogan. Who knows.

Somebody remembered how many t-shirts were sold and the project had to move forward. I recall a time when seemingly every American owned one of these.

I was actually thinking I'd prefer new guys, rather than trotting out the geezers. Maybe they all die in the opening scene and their sons have to take over the family business, mentored by the only survivor, Winston (hey, it'd be nice if the black guy lived for once). I love Bill and all those guys but it would be sad if they came back and were wheezy versions of their former selves. If it's going to fail, I'd rather it happen with a new cast.

This sounds like a great idea to me. I grew up on Ghostbusters and I like Seth Rogan.
Hope it happens!
