Hi,

I'm editing a snowboard film and want to achieve a certain transition.

I'm not sure if it's after effects or done in fcp so I apologize if i'm in the wrong place.

The effect is at 52secs, and a few other places. It's like a fast wipe effect. I've tried to do this in FCP with keyframes and motion blur...But can't get it to look anything near this.

Does anyone have any ideas how to do this?

Thanks

Whatever it is ...its very fast. Maybe 3 or 4 frames max.

I cant find any transition on this video.Nice one by the way, but I think you mean the scanline(or bad video) effect that distorts the image. And it start at 54secs.
You can do this with AE play around with the grid effect .

Its a subtle fast wipe? From the shot of the tree's into the shot of the snowboarder on the handrail.
It's almost like the camera tilts upwards very fast.....

It happens at 38secs too but its sideway rather than upwards...

it would be with after effects and keyframing the position of the clip to transition off the way you want it to then keyframe a motion blur to happen with it

then he just has the next clip pop up afterwards and its all very quick like said before only about 3 - 4 frames

this is how i would do it anyways

its a very good movie by the way its available on their website now
and their editing style is awesome

The effect at :38 is a swish pan. The best way to handle the effect is in camera.
It's not a wipe - the layer is moving out of frame to the right, the transition to the next shot looks like a cut to me. In post you might not be able to move the layer with enough speed for motion blur to sell the effect. You can always keyframe a directional blur to create the perception of additional motion blur.

The effect at :52 the layer animates in from the top and snaps in place.

I think the biggest problem is that you're running at it the wrong way. You keep describing the effect as a wipe. It''s not a wipe. It's a moving layer. Work on getting the motion down and then you can add some masking effects if you want it to be more like a wipe.

Ok thanks for the help I'll try what you've all described.

Yeah I downloaded the movie when it came out. Really good snowboarding film.

Loved it!

You will have to move the achor point around the get that type of movement and scaling.
