in Tape mode, just trying to get my PC to recognize the HVX. It's worked fine up till now. In the device manager, it says that it can't find the driver.
I can't find the driver anywhere! There are plenty of P2 drivers out there but can't find a driver just for the camera.

The same driver that is for all the other products. There's one Windows driver package that includes the P2 Store, PCD20, HVX200, cardbus slot, everything.

Where exactly can I find that? I looked at Panny's site and saw a P2 driver. Nothing I install seems to be working.
I can't find the original disk that came with the HVX.

I have sort of the same problem, only my HVX200 will not connect to to my Mac (I have Boot Camp, and am continuing a project started in Adobe) as well (for P2 and regular).
I have tried many different Firwire cables, as well as USB cables. It just does not recognize any Firewire device being plugged in.
I'm at wit's end. I'm thinking it could be a damaged port in the HVX, but I don't even want to think about what that would cost.

Ok lets start at the top:
1rst: Make sure you are in "1394 device" mode in the "Other functions" menu.
If that doesnt work try the instructions below. The secret may be that you must have the camera on first. Despite later a later memo that both systems should ideally be off - plugged in and then turned back on. As long as you plug the cable in to the external device FIRST. you should be just fine.
To use your HVX with your computer: first plug your firewire in to your computer that is already turned on, then make sure the HVX is set to "1394 device" ("the recommended mode for Mac Computers") in the "Other Functions menu" make sure the camera is in "PC" mode. Press the "Rear" menu button and hold. Whe you reach the next screen (Scene files) press the Rear menu button again "1394 Device" will flash on the screen. When it is done flashing plug the firewire in to your camera. Yes I know The ideal scenario is to have both the camera and the other device turned off first but it may give you an error reading! You MUST however plug the firewire in to the external device/computer first to de-energize the line and prevent static electricity from zapping your circuitry.

Well, I still have no idea what is wrong.
I have everything installed, all of the camera settings are correct.

It says '1394 DISCONNECT'.
It could also be because I don't have a P2 card installed. I'm trying to connect for DV at this point.

Well, I no longer think this is an issue with my HVX. I tried hooking up multiple cameras with no success.
