Hi guys a friend has 2K ProRes footage of a music video he edited in FCP. It came from 4K Red Footage. He wants me to do some after effects work on it, but I have a PC.

I formated a FAT32 drive and he saved some footage for me in the Animation export at 2K. Total file size of the project is 30gb, but with Fat 32 limitation it's only saving 2gb files. I don't even know if Animation would be the best export option, but we were just experimenting.

My goal: Get the best quality master from FCP into my After Effects. Final Output to client will be from my PC.

What do you guys recommend? Any advice?

Thanks in advance.

I just found out on finalcutuser.com that Apple released a ProRes decoder for Windows. I think if you install it, the Quicktime implementation in AE will just recognize the ProRes files and you can just keep things native all the way. I think. Maybe. Worth a shot anyway...

Almost all the way, he would need to render out to QT animation or some other codec for output.

Wow, Apple just released a patch, thank you much for this info, I hadn't heard anything about it. I will do a test tomorrow and see if it works.

Then I'll just render it out some other way for final output.
