This is my favorite movie-that-i-hadn't-heard-of-that-i-watched-and-loved that i've seen in a long time. Jake Kasdan (son of lawrence) writes and directs based on his experience trying to get pilots picked up by networks (he worked on Freaks & Geeks, Undeclared, Grosse Pointe). It is hilarious and made me love David Duchovny all over again (i forgot how much i liked him in Trust The Man). Very well written, a couple of the characters are a little too plastic/stereotypical but it works. I laughed out loud several times and I am going to watch it again soon (i don't say that very often). Judd Apatow executive produced and does a commentary with Kasdan (i haven't listened to it yet). Highly Recommended.

I really like The Zero Effect, Jake's first film. Unfortunately, Walk Hard was one of the worst things I'd seen in a while. I'll give it a chance, though.

TheMac, did you like the actor that plays the actor that wins the role? I absolutely hate that guy (ironic - since so does Duchovny's character in the film) and I just couldn't get past him. It was too hard to judge the movie just because every time that guy came onscreen I wanted to deck him.

yeah, i did hate him. i didn't like the actress either. i'm sure there are people like those characters but they could have been more believable. Maybe just more subtle. But it didn't stop me from loving the movie. Judy Greer was a bit over the top but I believed it. Maybe just because I love her. Some of the dialogue was really original, especially Duchovny's jokes. And maybe in a way the story lacks an arc, or its just not your traditional arc, but i thought the ending was refreshing. I watched it a second time and I love it. Probably because it reminds me of where I work.
