I have never watched a single one of these films. Should I or are they as crap as they appear?

The first one is fine if you don't expect anything from it. It never pretends to be anything other than what it is. I haven't seen any of the others.
I just like to give my subwoofer a workout now and then.

It is as dumb as the average hollywood summer blockbuster (transformers ....etc), but it has a lot of glamor and sex appeal (both people and machines :p ). If you want good storytelling, wait for sundance and late fall (oscars contenders).

Agreed.
The trailer for the latest installment looks pretty cool. I don't care what anyone says, the first movie is awesome. It's basically a reworking of Point Break with tuner cars.
The second movie was like a bad episode of Dukes of Hazard...if it took place in Miami. But the cars are nice.

as far as mindless action goes these movies arent bad. Obviously the first one was the best and they went down hill from there, but if you go in with the proper expectations like wanting to see hot girls, hot cars, and explosions, then they are decent entertainment.
If you go in wanting to see great acting and a good storyline....well not so much.
The trailer for the new one looks decent, but it is a rental or something i will catch on HBO unless a friend wants to go see it.

I know it's sad, but I'm stoked to see this movie.
Jordana Brewster looking like she did in the trailer = me buying a ticket & not waiting for the HBO.

I liked the first two. That last one was horrible.

i actually liked the last one best. it was refreshing to not have any forced cop storylines. it focused on the driving and characters, thin characters mind you but there was never the "i'm a cop" moment the others (and so many other films) reuse over and over.

Man, the last one was as stupid as can get! The characters totally sucked. I wanted to punch the main character in the face the whole movie! And the driving wasn't so good either.

First ten seconds: Grand National. NICE.
A car I will have, hopefully sooner rather than later.

I haven't seen the first two, but I was pleasantly surprised with the 3rd one. Especially since I'd never seen the first ones.
Sure it was not Kubrick but it was fun and ridiculous in a good way. Maybe since I didn't expect much?

No matter what you think if these films (I'm not a fan), you have to love the structure of the two main trailers. Its like watching a short film, then boom: you get the closeup of the star and its Vin Dielsal or the Paul guy, and then your all like... "oh its that guy", and then the rest is straight up trailer.
It grabbed my attention because I didn't know immediatly what the movie was, and didn't care, they had me involved because they presented a simple story shown in a very exciting way.
So many trailers are try to tell the story of the entire feature film, these two told the story of one intense scene. Well done.

Warning, there are spoilers. (Cough cough, who cares)
VIN VILL IT END?
WITH their careers stalled, Vin Diesel and Paul Walker have consented to grace the witless retread called "Fast & Furious" with their first joint appearance since "The Fast and the Furious" in 2001.
The stars look bored out of their minds when the fourth episode of the franchise stalls between racing sequences, which is all too often in a flick where 106 minutes speed by in what feels like at least four hours.
Their ennui is a sentiment likely to be shared by audience members, who unlike Diesel and Walker are not receiving seven-figure salaries for enduring this misfire.
Director Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift") stages some OK chase sequences -- particularly a couple set in an underground tunnel that handily runs under the Mexico-US border -- but can't muster much interest in the paper-thin plot, which was apparently souped up to showcase producer Diesel's alleged acting chops.
Diesel's street-racing outlaw Dom Toretto ends several years of self-
imposed exile in Mexico when his girlfriend Letty (Michelle Rodriguez (http://www.nypost.com/topics/topic.php?t=Michelle+Rodriguez), returning from the first movie for what amounts to a star-billed cameo) is killed during a smuggling run.
Tearful Dom heads back across the border to get even with the culprit, a sociopathic drug kingpin who it just happens is also being sought by his best frenemy, federal agent Brian O'Connor (Walker).
The two meet cute when Brian arrives to interrogate a suspect Dom is already hanging by his ankles out a fifth-story window.
I can't say I remember much of the low-octane capers that transpire after that without consulting my notes. Mostly it involves Dom administering extreme corporal punishment, demolishing vehicles and spouting dimwitted bon mots while Brian struggles to look interested.
Jordana Brewster, the Yale University scion who returns to the thankless role of Dom's sister and Brian's putative love interest, after drifting deeply into acting obscurity, seems particularly sullen.
Perhaps she resents that Rodriguez was allowed to quickly escape from "Fast & Furious," while she is obliged to stick around while the movie crashes and burns around her. Perhaps we can all learn from her experience.

I liked the first 2.
I'm sure I'll check it out in a week or two after the racers go to see it and race in the streets after.
No joke.
After the fisrt movie people were in the parking lot looking at their engines and racing....
1 star.... Zero stars.... I like them for what they are.
Stupid, fast, Summer [Spring] fun!

I just saw it tonight. I've been a fan of the series since the first came out. I can say that I love the original, hate 2 Fast, and I can watch Tokyo Drift.
Fast and Furious is the best in the series since the original, it may focus a little too much on the action and not so much on the cars, but honestly if it were all about the cars would any of us actually be able to sit through it? I like the direction they took this movie in. Besides a few small problems, like Dom's apparent ability to re-create a crime scene as though he was there, Fast and Furious is very enjoyable and the fact that it got 1 star means nothing, and anyone who listens to shitty newspaper reviews shouldn't be posting on these threads.

What I mean is this whole thread is based on a series of fairly mindless, fun movies. It's not important, or worth getting worked up over.
I took your comment as a blanket statement, "If you base your opinions on newspaper reviews, you aren't worthy of posting here." Barely anyone posts in this particular forum anyways, so what's a few extra dumb comments or reviews sprinkled in?
For the record, I'm sure there is some grain of truth to that review, but I'm going to see the movie anyways. I just thought "Vin Vill It End" was funny.

Didn't have anything to do today, saw this at about 4pm. I put it 2nd next to the first one. It really wasn't as bad as I thought. Had plenty of awkward moments and bad lines, but overall the film worked in many areas and the pace and twists in it were better crafted than the previous two installments. Dare I say that the film had more "depth" (what little it has) than the other 2 as well.
I had to pick between this and the next Renny Harlin failure (12 Rounds), I'm glad I chose this.

Does it have that weird shot I've been seeing in the TV spots where it looks like Jordana Brewster's face has been stuck on someone else's head while driving?

My 2 cents
The first one was awesome, why did everyone see that movie? because of the sweet cars nothing else, 2 was lacking a little bit but still fun, tokyo drift was a big joke, half of the cars were CG and the last race was all CG!
Either way it looks like they are going for the same look as the first, and thats why im seeing it.

Yes, how presumptuous of me to trust the opinions of a newspaper critic.
Find me one thing in this review below that doesn't ring true. Jordana Brewster looked miserable. I think somebody had a gun to her head off camera forcing her to participate in this.
