anyone have any experiance using vegas 8 on a dual quadcore xeon machine with 16gb ram and vista 64? I tried testing vegas on it and was disappointed with the results.

video preview of HDV was slightly faster then my p4 machine. render was super fast, with 8 cores working at 60-80%, but after 500 frames passed, the render slows down to a crawl, with 7 cores workin at 5-10% and one jumping to 30-50%.

Im guessing its not the hardware...its either vista 64 or vegas 8 (version a)

does vegas support 8 xeon cores?
any ideas other then getting the latest version of vegas?

on another note, I tried to benchmark using photoshop cs3 extrude filter...it was also lagging, not using full system reasources.

I have Vista 64-bit too, and Vegas (7 and 8) does NOT play nice on it with HDV. I'm going to install XP 64-bit and see what happens.

Can you view footage in Best(full) on you quad xeon in real-time with no frame drops? I only have the old single core 2x Xeon 2.8ghz, it's a pretty simple setup, nothing too elaborate and I was thinking of upgrading so that I can get real-time preview at a decent quality than what I can now. Was think about 64bit too, but with XP. Don't think Vista is really up to the challenge.Be interested to hear how your XP switch goes.

Lots of folks here have problems with Vista and Vegas. Vista is troublesome. Microsoft is trouble shooting the software at our expense. Try Win XP Pro 64 bit. That may be a safer bet.

I have been running Vegas on a quad core Vista machine for a few months now and while I generally like Vista, I have not noticed the performance jump from my P4 2.8 machine I was on that I thought I would see. I'm going back to XP.
