Hi all,

I can't capture from tape on my HVX200E to Final Cut Pro on either my Imac G5 or MacBook even though I can play the tapes in FCP perfectly ok and transfer footage from my Firestore ok. When I play the tape it seems to be coming through fine but as soon as I press 'capure now' or 'capture clip' I get a message saying FCP encountered a problem and capture has aborted. 'It could be a problem with the tape' but there is nothing wrong with the tape. I have tried capturing different tapes, capturing to internal HDD instead of external HDD, turning off the abort capture and drop frame preferences in audio/video settings. Nothing works.

I can capture ok in iMovie but I don't think I can preserve the DVCPRO format in iMovie.

Any suggestions? I'd be extremely grateful for any tips.

I'm running Leopard on my MacBook and Tiger on my iMac.

James.

trash fcp preferences, reboot machine, try again.

Do you mean TAPE, or do you mean the P2 cards? (If you recorded in DVCPRO, you must mean the cards, right?)

And by "capture now," do you mean you're playing the footage from the P2 cards over firewire and trying to capture manually?

If so, that's really, really, really not the way to do it. Transfer the data off the cards AS data, and then import. You'd use Log & Transfer for the import.

HVXmania.

There is a little confusion and some inconsistencies in your post.

Could you explain what exactly you are trying to do?

Also what version of FCP are you using, and what sequence/easy setup did you choose?

Hi guys, thanks so much for the rapid response. I was trying to transfer from tape to Final Cut Pro 6. I have solved the problem. I had to change the easy set up/preferences capture settings in FCP to DV- PAL rather than DVCPRO - PAL. I had thought the camera could record in standard definition on tape in the DVCPRO codec and that that is what I had done (DVCPRO50). David, is it not possible to record SD DVCPRO 25 or 50 to tape? I'm worried that I might have indeed have recorded it in DVCPRO but changed codecs during capture and might have lost colour info (due to the DV - PAL setting). Any thoughts?

You can record DV25 to tape. That's it.

No DV50 -- only to p2 card or FS
