Script is 80% complete, running a little long so I'll probably trim it down, or have an extended cut after the fest is done. It's pretty funny so far, should be entertaining at the least.
Some casting is underway. Shooting dates are Sept. 20 & 21st and possibly one other weekend depending on actor availability.
Title has been changed from "BMM and the Four Holed Button From Hell" to "BMM and the Curse of the Four Holed Button" primarily for comedic reasons.

Script is complete!! It's clocking in at a very long 14 pages, so the plan right now is to have a fest version and then the uncut directors edition later on. Shooting dates are now October 10, 11, & 12, so we'll be working last minute.

Updated the front page with a few changes. I also changed the title to "Benjamin Merrymeadows and the Curse of the Four Holed Button". In the context of the film, this should be much funnier. I hope to have some casting announcements soon.

thanks guys!
haven't had a chance to update for a while, but with the deadline approaching, now's probably a good time.
finished up filming on friday (which would have been done a week ago, but my lead actor had to have his appendix removed so we understandable got delayed a little bit)
yesterday I finished up the majority of the ADR work (everything in the movie is ADR'd except for the first scene) and just have a few more pickup lines to get today, which i'll probably do in about 2 hours.
in the last hour i got the film down from ~7:35 to 6:15 or so.
Now it's time for sound effects and foley! Nothing like pushing things to the deadline!
I'll try and post a few more screencaps up today if I get a chance. I decided to switch to black and white, which is looking pretty good.

alright, in honor of this actually getting done in time here are a few more pics, showcasing it's blackandwhite-ness. some of these pics are from what i submitted (BMM CFHB part 1), and the others are from what will be part 2. The full film is should be roughly 15-16 minutes, so what I turned in for the fest is roughly half of the movie, with a few extra parts cut out.

I love long titles,( and yours wouldn't even fit within a filename it seems) and it's a great title too. Your grabs look great and it really has me intrigued.
I do wonder...
Could you (have) submit the 1st half of the film as one entry, and the second half as your other? I don't remember seeing anything about it in the rules.... hmmm

Warning: A DVX GETS THROWN IN THIS VIDEO.
Dude, messed up, your have a creative way of telling a story.
Your the guy who made that 20 minute short online right? I think I watched it on Vimeo or something.
Did you ADR all of this? If so, nice job. How'd you do it?
Was this DVX or HVX? With what Adapter?
I liked it, it was a good laugh.

Thanks!! That's what we were going for!

Hmm, don't think so. I've got some stuff on vimeo, but nothing that long.
Did you ADR all of this? If so, nice job. How'd you do it?
Parts of the first scene were on-set sound, but everything else was ADR. My ADR set up is kinda ghetto, but it seems to work pretty well. I'm just running ProTools out to an Mbox using a condenser mic in my bedroom. I used to run the mic out to another room, but then the actors had no video feed, this way they can see the video which went really smoothly.
Was this DVX or HVX? With what Adapter?
HF100 actually! With the JAG35 Pro adapter and primarily a Nikon 50mm 1.4. It puts out surprisingly good results considering its cost. I've actually spent far more on accessories (adapter, batteries, shoulder mount) than the camera itself.
I liked it, it was a good laugh.
Robbie
Thanks again, man! If we can make people laugh, I consider that a success!!!
P.S. No DVX's were harmed in the making of this film!

in the DC / full version of the film, we actually take this even further! I showed a rough cut of this to my lead actor when he was in the hospital getting his appendix removed, and he was in so much pain from laughing it sounded like something was going to burst. it was great.

The beginning was awesome. You totally had me hooked. Loved the shots looking up at him, and all the bleeps. LMAO!!!! It did slow down for me after that. The ADR was especially bothersome for me. I've never done ADR, but I'm sure it's really hard to do well. I would rather have noisy tracks than ADR (and I usually do), because so much of the performance is lost.
Lots of great camera work. It gave a nice frantic feeling to it. Love the shots of the button rolling, seems like a difficult shot to do.
Congrats!

Well, opening was funny. I was completely lost but it kept me watching... hoping in between laughing at the jokes that the story would somehow emerge and come full circle ... and have things make sense. Unfortunately it didn't. So, in the end... creative, funny, but not really my cup of tea. I see a lot of potential for you guys to make some genius comedy in the future so keep at it.

Thanks! Loved your film, one of my favorites. Yeah, the ADR is kind of a pain, but believe me, you wouldn't have wanted to hear our tracks from the day. They're so noisy with background sounds and people talking that you can hardly tell what's happening. Glad you appreciated the button shots as well, we had about five times as many shots that were totally useless, it definitely took a while to get.

Thanks, man. Unfortunately our full film is around 15-16 minutes, so even with just showing part 1 we had to cut a lot out. Hopefully the full edit will make a lot more sense. Hope you check it out when we release it!

I kinda got a kick out of how wacky the first few shots were. However, about 10 seconds in I felt it quickly turned into high school/frat houset humor which just isn’t my type. What I did like was how you shot the piece. It was well framed and had decent enough lighting. The voice over had a very anime quality to it… that hollow room tone (bad if that wasn’t what you were going for, good if it was). Anyway, competently made and guiltily funny, but not my cup of tea.

Good thing I like bananas!! Thanks, man, I really appreciate it! For this film, it was pretty much me (Matt Stuertz) doing the behind the camera stuff, and I'm not in the film. However, all of the actors in it are filmmakers as well, whether its working with me or on their own. Brian Bear (Benjamin) collaborates with me a lot on coming up with ideas and just figuring out stuff that's funny. The whole button flying off thing was something we came up with while watching TV one night a while back. AJ Meadows (Timmy AKA "sore balls") does a bunch of filmmaking himself. http://www.vimeo.com/anthonymeadows
Pretty much any film that I work on will have Brian in it / helping out in some way, and I hope to work with AJ again soon.
Thanks again everyone!! I'll reply some more in a few hours!

I love the editing and your camera work in a lot of this. It keeps things at such a frenetic break neck pace the viewer has to work to keep up with it. But oh what fun that is.

Glad you loved it! It seems like most people don't like to do ADR, but I actually find it pretty fun - a lot of times we end up with stuff thats way funnier than the real take. (for example: the f*ck the DVX line was added just a few hours before we submitted) Plus the actors always have a good time yelling at my computer screen!

Very good one, though I see it's just the first part? Or I misjudged it?
Benjamin is GREAT actor-at least for this kinda stuff. I found his appearance and style very funny, and the voice also.
The trickiest part here I found is when button escaped-if it only was some normaln object to shoot, but this is BUTTON. I had a picture of you guys getting to shoot, and then the button stopped, or fell into some hole, or anything else. I loved that button scene, looks like you had some real fun during shooting.
Music is ok, when button escapes and Benjamin sees it I think he had button there on a coat, and as for all the other stuff-can we see the 2nd part?
Good job, particulary as there's no a lot of comedy on Twilight fest.

Hey Guys,
Just caught the flick. Very fun. I really enjoyed the tone of this. I thought, for me, it was serious at times and very very funny. I thought you did a great job with the actors playing it "straight." They didn't seem over the top or overdone, despite the situations. The beginning left me torn between feeling incredibly sad and wanting to burst of laughing. Nice work.
Production value was top notch. I thought your mix of styles fit the tone of this piece really really well. The snorrie-cam stuff of running, as well as when Benjamin swings his button around is just great.
The story was very odd. In fact, I have no idea what this was about. But you mastered the tone and the comedic elements. And (like the marbles, etc.) the randomness very well. I had a good time watching.

12:06:31 PM Brad Mate: theres a lot of misogyny goign on
12:08:08 PM Brad Mate: yikes
12:08:38 PM Ben Sliker: yes ... the plunger proves it ... these guys want to make love.
12:09:03 PM Brad Mate: these guys just sent the women's lib movement back about 10 years
12:09:07 PM Brad Mate: so....good job
12:09:30 PM Ben Sliker: Marie is speechless.
12:09:48 PM Ben Sliker: "retarded all over the place" is an exact quote.
12:10:06 PM Brad Mate: its funny how there wasnt any women in the short...but it couldnt have been more offensive toward women, that's almost impressive.
12:10:47 PM Ben Sliker: definitely an opportunity for some comedy by inserting a female character
12:11:25 PM Ben Sliker: i think the "creepy" beats were mixed in with the normal beats that they lost their effect.
12:13:59 PM Brad Mate: the writing was absolute(ly not to my style). try and (expand your rhetoric and use a) few more words than f*ck, pussy, and bitch. and then try to (formulate more coherent comedic beats) before you (make the next episode)
12:14:05 PM Ben Sliker: you know what i mean though? the beginning set this film up to be so ridiculous that the really creepy stuff, (eg, the camera spying, the plunger to the nuts) was just kind of expected.
12:14:58 PM Brad Mate: i dont know what this film was supposed to be. it was trying to be creepy while doing slapstick
12:15:12 PM Ben Sliker: so, i guess the response to that would be "i guess it's just not your kind of comedy"
12:17:02 PM Brad Mate: im sure (a demographic) would find this funny. but they were obviously trying to be more than just fart-and-dick joke kind of funny.
12:18:28 PM Brad Mate: im sorry im not being funny or helpful.
12:19:22 PM Ben Sliker: yeah ... you suck.
12:22:04 PM Ben Sliker: it's going to be a challenge for me to edit that down into something constructive.
12:22:19 PM Brad Mate: lol sorry
12:22:49 PM Brad Mate: hope you don'r go through too much trouble...
12:23:00 PM Brad Mate: *don'5
12:23:01 PM Brad Mate: jasdfhasg
12:23:02 PM Brad Mate: auajf
12:23:02 PM Brad Mate: aofhe
12:23:02 PM Brad Mate: apgop
12:23:02 PM Brad Mate: ahjgp
12:23:05 PM Brad Mate: FAIL
12:24:11 PM Ben Sliker: epic typing fail indeed.
Guys, I don't think we were ready for this one when we watched it. There's times when this kind of comedy has me rolling on the floor, and other times when it feels like there's a cheese grater on my face. I have to say that the intro was quite hilarious, no matter what mood I'm in, but we were a little confused between the slapstick comedy beats and the creepy stalker beats, they didn't seem to mesh well at times, or to clarify, they didn't have synergy, although funny by themselves, didn't make the rest of the piece funnier as a whole. But that's just my .02. This was a completely off the wall comedy, cheers.
