how come I would by the IKAN V-8000 to monitor my HD project if the resolution is only 800x480. Is it that much better than a bigger cheaper true HD monitor from say bestbuy or other electronic store? I know its got a few more outputs and options but just for critical color, framing and focus is all I'm looking for.
Im new to HD so just wondering if any one could help me so I don't buy the wrong thing.
-thanks

Well the problem is that the IKAN isn't true HD 1080p or 720p but the res is higher than that of the the stock HVX lcd and therefore is IMO good enough for focusing and framing. There are other LCDs with outstanding resolution like the Nebtek and Marshall but more expensive. And the LCD monitors you buy at bestbuy need AC power so they aren't exactly portable like the IKAN, NEBTEK, and MARSHALL. I plan on getting an IKAN becuz its cheap and I only really need it for focus work. If I do get a 35mm adapter then i would seriously consider the NEBTEK or dare i even say the uber expensive Panasonic BTLH80WU which has the same resolution as the IKAN but with more focus assists on the monitor itself.
So I guess the question you gotta ask yourself is what you are going to need the monitor for and if the added focus assists are important to you or not?

If you get a production monitor, you'll be able to grow into it pretty well. If you get something from BestBuy, you'll probably just use it as a temporary patch until you get a "real" monitor. Knowing that color and exposure are right, and having a reliable piece of field equipment that you can run on AB batteries is what you're paying for. Plus, if you upgrade to a higher-end camera with SDI, you'll be very glad you got something designed for production.
Another alternative could be using a laptop with DVRack or OnLocation. If you can stand the slight lag, it can give you full resolution plus all the scopes and RGB parade, etc. It's a slightly more professional way to go than a HDTV, plus you've got built-in battery power and you can also use it to manage data on set.

Can BT-LH80WU used with HVX? Even though HVX doesn't have HD-SDI?
If I do get a 35mm adapter
i have the ikan v-8000, i use it with my brevis and it works great. i would NOT recommend the ikan for color accuracy, but for framing and critical focus, you simply cant beat it for the price.
