View Full Version : Hawk Footage Needed

Im not sure where on the forum to post this, so, being that I need HD footage, and use an HVX all the time, I will post it here. Please pardon my stupidity if there is a place for this kind of posting.

I am in need of 720P footage of a Hawk for a corporate project. The clip needs to be clean and stable. I need flight footage and a bonus would be a nice tight shot of it perched.

I have seen several footage sites but there is nothing that strikes my fancy so far. the only site that had good stuff, was well out of my budget in the 500 to 800 dollar range. I dont expect this to be handed to me for free, but that was more than twice what I have to work with. Price depends on clip quality. There is plenty of stuff out there in the 30 to 90 dollar price range, but I cant tell if it is a Hawk or a seagull. Not to mention it is all shakey cam footage. I know this is hard to shoot, I have tried myself, but shakey cams wont work.

I would prefer this in native MXF format for an HVX edit in premier CS3. However, beggers cannot be choosey. No up-rez'ed SD stuff please, must be shot in 720 or 1080. A black hawk is even more desireable. If anyone can help, call or text me direct, I will be happy to return calls on my dime. Project deadline is in a week.

I wish I had my camera handy last week. I was checking out my new back yard, and about 30 yards out I see a bird flying my way. About 20 yards out, I notice it is a Hawk, which kind I'm not sure. About 10 yards out, our eyes meet, and I realize he is still coming straight at me. At 10 feet away, I take a step back into a defensive position, before he pulls up, over my porch and landing on my roof. I step out and look up at him perched on the corner, and he is looking me square in the eye... and I would swear if birds could chuckle, he was.

My "wish I had a camera moment" this week was in a raft in Glacier Park. Two eagles less than ten yards...

Of course, it would have had to be a waterproof camera.

Our Cats do the same thing, and, I'm glad I don't have my camera handy when they do, I WILL NOT, feed their little four legged furry Ego's by putting them on camera!!....

When they are hungry, they can be as cute as can be! Quite helpless little creatures, you think to yourself. Put that food-filled bowl down and its all over man. Run for cover or They'll scratch your eyes out for looking at em the wrong way!!

Critters, ya gotta love em.

Speaking of which, Right now, there is a swarm of bees the size of a basketball on a pear tree out back. I have never seen anything like it!!! I'm going to brave it and shoot some HD Bee-Roll.

(bada boom goes the drums) Don't hit me for cheap humor.

Im serious, all puns intended, I just called a bee farm and they are on their way to collect em, I gotta run before I lose the shot opportunity.

Tell them they can take the bees, but leave the honey :)

In the mean time, I will put my camera together and keep my eyes out for my new neighbor. I wouldn't hold my breath though, I haven't seen him since that day. I guess I somehow offended him when I took the defensive pose, but I wasn't going to take any chances. The week before that, there was a woman on the news who had been attacked by a Pelican. Sure, go ahead and laugh, but it messed her up. She was swimming at the beach, and just about to surface when the Pelican dived for her. It hit her so hard, it's beak went through her cheek and broke the bird's neck. Man... I'm starting to have Hitchcock Flashbacks.

HI all,

Thanks for all the wonderful input, I am hopeful.

Amanda: I don't know the Dif between an osprey and a turtle. can you pull a few frames??

Jetaddiction: That is some really nice stuff!!!! If it were not an Eagle, it is exatcly what im looking for. I must say, living on the north coast here by lake erie, you are very fortunate to have such beautiful stuff at your disposal. (assuming you live close to these area's)

Shot of a Swarm of Bees in my backyard, see previous posts on this thread for reasons.

An Osprey is a fishing Eagle. Not that Bald Eagles don't fish, but they are different.
