Hello all,

Im about to shoot a documentary in HD. This is my first HD Project, so I need some help!

Im shooting with the HVX and I don't know what type of field monitor to use. I don't have much of a budget so keep that in mind.

Also if you have any more tips or tricks for shooting in HD in the field please let me know.

also should I shoot in full 1080 or just go 720p?

I recommend the IKAN V8000HD monitor. It retails for about 800 but you can find it for around 500 online. Any sort of Field monitor is very important with the HVX since it has a SD LCD that makes focusing in HD very difficult. Since you are on a limited budget I would advise that you shoot in 720p since you can increase your recording times buy shooting in 24pn or 30pn.

I just got the ViewSonic N1630w. It's a little 16" LCD capable of
doing 1080i. I run the composite out of the HVX and into the
composite inputs in the back of the N1630w. When I can't run it
on AC power, I use an Anton-Bauer inverter on one of my Frezzi
batteries. It runs about two and a half hours on a FLV-100
battery pack. Spec says it draws 40 watts .. but I think less than
that.

The little guy works like a charm and cost me a grand total of $247
bucks from Buy.com. It is not all that chroma accurate, but for a
focus assist or a jib .. it works pretty darn good.
