Hi,

I did location sound for a shoot recently where the production was using an HVX200.

I fed audio from my mixer to the HVX200 via a breakaway cable with headphone return and monitored the camera's headphone output.

Now, the odd thing is that I got an email from the producer a few days later indicating that the audio recorded to the P2 card sounded like the on-board mike.*

I was suprised to hear that, because I always monitor camera return once the initial audio gain structure is setup at the beginning of the day and I confirm that I'm listening to my mike by moving the mike around and listening for "off axis" sounds, etc.

Is there any possible way for the HVX200 to send XLR input 1/2 sound to the headphone circuit yet record audio from the internal mics ?

Thanks in advance,

Stephen H

* All was not lost on the shoot. I usually record to an Edirol HD recorder in tandem, just to cover situations like this. I delivered crystal-clear audio to the producer on data DVDs.

well, the HVX has headphone setting for record or other output, maybe you weren't hearing record, but input. also, you have to set the switches on the side to the channel input you want for the XLRs. and if you were recording in HD, the HVX records 4 channels, 1/2 are the XLRs (if selected) and 3/4 are always the onboards. maybe the producer grabbed channels 3/4.
