hey all,

I just got enough money to get the hvx-200a when all of a sudden this hpx-170 madness appears. I've read enough to know the hpx is the superior camera, but my question is how long until the accessories for the camera begin to pop up? Stuff like a case, rain slicker, etc. Or will most of the accessories for hvx still work for the hpx?

Also, what is the chance that the hpx won't even be out in September but at a later date?

Thanks,
Matt

1. Soon.

2. No body knows.

Accessories like zoom controllers and such will work right now. The only accessories that won't work would be something like a tele or wide lens; DVX accessories would work for those but it's questionable whether an SD lens would be appropriate for an HD camcorder.

Ahh. I see. My century glas is bayonett for the HVX and was hoping to just get step down rings. but that wouldn't be the case would it? do you think that there might be a work around for 82mm century stuf to work on the 170? I'm so excited about this litle cam and want to get my hands on it to try it out. It'll either be this or the ex1 but I 'd rather stay with panny if I can. cheers

If there's going to be an adapter, it'd come from Schneider. Perhaps they could make a 72mm screw-in bayonet thing? I don't know. But I do believe that they've re-mounted lenses for folks in the past, so that might be an option for you.

so is the hpx basically the same size and shape as the Dvx?

i have my water housing for the hvx200 . does it look like the lens center of the hpx 170 would match up with the port. and are the zoom controller at similar height and distance from frount. in short ,does it look close enough to maybe keep my hvx200 housing untill my new hpx 170 arrives and try and make it fit? or just start from scratch with a new housing? i saw and worked the red one for the 1st time last weekend and wow, way bigger than i thought from all the pics. if the buttons of the 170 are close to the hvx it would save me a ton of work. barry?

Don't know. The 170 is a lot slimmer and somewhat smaller overall than the 200 is.

slimmer would work. would it help to try to line up a dvx100 and see if it works ,or is close . the 170 lens and button in similar placings? they are close in length and height ? with the hvx200 port being bigger i have lots of wiggle room to make the buttons work? i would be in heaven if someone could make a adapter for all my hvx200 lens to fit the new hpx170 . i have already sold my hvx and am on a prebook for the hpx170.

cheers Barry. I'm going to send a request to Century for just this very thing. Anyone have an idea on when these will be shipping and such?

any info on 35mm adapters? will they need to make a new one to fit the HPX170? Or would you use the ones already constructed for the DVX100?
