I'm not sure where to post this - I hope it is of interest to all of you.
I'm a camera assistant working in LA and I've branched out from just film projects to DVX projects in the past year. I've had such a great experience with the camera that I bought myself a 100A.
A couple of shows you should look out for (as DVX enthusiasts):
Unscripted - a semi-reality show on HBO. Shot by the same guys who did K Street (which was also shot with DVX's). But Soderbergh isn't as involved...Unscripted is shot and directed by George Clooney. I am utility/5th operator on the show (we have 5 episodes done and are starting 5 more next week). The actors play themselves being actors in LA. Clooney gives them story lines and scenarios, but there's no written script. It is all shot with 5 DVX's, mostly handheld, very run and gun, and a lot of fun to work on.
CSI:NY - I'm a camera assistant on the show. We're currently working on our 5th episode. It premieres Sept 22 at 10pm on CBS. We're shooting all the 'flashback' sequences on DVX with Anamorphic adaptors (I had a hand in pushing for the DVX/24p cameras vs. using other video formats). We worked on a short lived TV show last year called Threat Matrix, where we used the DVX for video inserts and we carried it over (and expanded its use) on CSI:NY. The shots will be quick and they go through a lot of post-production, but we use the DVX to get maximum quality with maximum speed and cost.
I also helped shoot a documentary about the Philadelphia U.S. Pro Cycling Race in June. It is being edited now but I'll post when it comes out. That was a fantastic shoot - 3 of us with DVX's running around Philly immersed in the world of pro cycling. Awesome.
This camera has opened up many opportunities for me - its more exciting for me to work with the DVX than with film!
Thanks.
Steve
