DvPixl-
Sorry too say the best equivalent to B&H in the Seattle area that I know of is EVS in California. Glazer’s Camera is great for still gear and they have a great lighting store, but their video selection is minimal. For rentals, Oppenheimer Camera is a good resource for accessories like matteboxes, tripods, and monitors. Also, with the sales tax at almost ten percent mail order is a lot cheaper even with shipping. Good Luck.

I agree with Hardrain. I actually rented a DVX100A from Oppenheimer and the day I returned it, I bought one :D

Another closer one would be Camerworld in Portland (if they are still there) I know they still exist via web and they are tax-free.
Another cool rental place is Vitory Studios near the Ballard Bridge.
If you wanna try before you buy...

Yeah Glazers is "ok" but they only carry Canon or Sony's. Tiny digital section. Very knowledgeable staff though.

been to oppenheimer... and it was ... closed. or it wasn't very inviting...and didn't know how to go in. Disjecta, any advice on the best place to rent or go to for production resources seattle? Will be here for another week so please inform me on what's in and what's out... as far as video goes.
for someone who lives in NY, I feel like everything is closed in Seattle...except U.village. the only place worth hanging out at.
but it's beautiful Seattle, and I love Boeing Field.
thanks for any info.

DV,
I haven't really had any need for production services in Seattle and the only place I rent from is Oppenheimer. I know what you mean about the place looking uninviting. It's not exactly a store front, it's just a door in a wall with an awning above it at the end of a side street. It took me a while to find it too :)
They are very friendly and knowledgeable people once you can actually find where they are...
Other than that, I'm not sure. I don't go into Seattle much.

Production/Rental places to check out:
911media.org
PH# 206-682-6552
non-profit film organization. They have rentals (DVX's, lighting, sound,
editing, etc.) Renting is cheaper for members. LOCATED near REI off of Denny Way
http://wigglyworld.org/
PH# 206-329-2629
non-profit film org. Also very cool place. (they rent DVX's and such)
VictoryStudios.com
PH# 206-282-1776
Located: South of the Ballard Bridge.
Great production facility, big to small. Soundstage and all. They have rentals as well. Everything. They hooked me up with 2 wireless lavs for the price of 1 ($60), ME66 shotguns ($25)
AV-PRO
http://www.av-pro.net/sales-rentals.html
PH# 206-343-3123

Bexel.com
Directions: http://www.bexel.com/CITIES/SEATTLE.HTM
PH# 206-628-7000 or 7003
Located: Georgetown
Everything. Rented from them once. They're huge. $$ sort of.
Last Resort:
GLAZERS CAMERA
http://glazerscamera.com/
PH# 888-531-3232
$$ Cool place to rent lights, etc. But don't offer much choice as far
as video/audio production goes. They are a camera store not a digital video place. But they do have Sony's and XL1's i think.
As far as tape/media:
PROTAPE Northwest
http://protapenw.com/
PH# 206-441-8273
Located: East Lake Ave. near the lake.
They stock everything.
AND as far as U-Village being the ONLY place to chill...
ummm. yeah if you like chillin' with yuppies. JK. There's the AVE in the U-district, there's the Seattle Center(Bumbershoot is coming up), cruisin around Capital Hill is cool for night life (for daytime check out PIKE and Pine St.) Then there's always Fremont although not as cool as it use to be, as its been overrun by even more yuppies then u-village, it still has some cool coffee places (ETG Coffee: ask for Joshua or Chris and tell them to hook you up with some coffee cause Ian Lucero said so) lots of bars, a cool record shop(SonicBoom Records) And more night life can be had in Belltown (again full of yuppies) So if you're wondering why Seattle seems closed, well that's because it's run by, you guest it - Yuppies.
yippy.
hope that helps, and welcome to seattle.
