Welcome to the dvxuser.com ScriptFest II

You've all been anxiously typing away at your keyboards, finely crafting the perfect script to submit and as usual there is a very interesting mix of entries. You are all very creative and it's a pleasure to see how you take a concept and birth it into something very real.

Regardless of how the voting turns out we all appreciate the huge amount of work it takes to complete and submit an entry -- all of you have our admiration and respect.

You can view the scripts at

http://www.dvxfest.com/scriptfestII/ (http://www.dvxfest.com/scriptfestII/)

Just like in the recent TimeFest we are employing the new rating system. Please notice, it is a rating, not a ranking system. The idea is not to pit one script against another. Instead each script should be rated individually.

The ratings are 1 - 10 where 1 means there is nothing positive to be said about the entry and 10 means there is nothing negative to be said about the entry.

If you read 5 different scripts and feel the same way about all 5 then rate them all the same.

You also have the option to re-rate each entry. So if on a subsequent read of the script you realize it's better than you thought, or worse, you can go in and change your rating.

How do I rate a script?

To rate a script, simply hover your mouse over the number of stars that represent your rating (1 star = a rating of 1, 5 stars = a rating of 5, 10 stars = a rating of 10, etc). To secure your rating, click the mouse button. This immediately saves that as your rating amount.

You will notice, however, that if you hover your mouse over the stars again it follows the mouse. This allows for the re-rating, if you again click the mouse on a different star number, then it will update your previous rating with the new rating value.

When not hovering over the stars for an entry it will show your most recent rating for that entry.

How long will viewing be open?

The viewing/rating of entries will be open until 11:00 AM Pacific Time (Los Angeles, CA time) on Friday, August 22, 2008. That gives you a week and a half to read and rate the scripts ... so get to work :)

Who is eligible to vote?

All current dvxuser.com members with 50 or more posts, plus all submitting writers regardless of your post count.

If you have less than 50 posts but submitted a script, please let me (Larry R) know so I can authorize you in the fest system.

Congratulations to all the writers that submitted entries and thanks to all the members participating.

As always, if you have any questions or problems please contact the moderators. You can start with myself and Isaac, but if we aren't around then any of the moderators should be able to help you.

Cool, thanks Larry! One question, would it be possible to post a zip file with all the scripts?

David W. Richardson

That's a good idea. The download page isn't working so well for me.

Fantastic work, Larry. I plan on reading these, but there are some other obligations I have first. A zip would be cool, if it isn't too much trouble. :)

Thanks for all the work that has gone into this fest. But ... every one I've tried gives me a Not Found message.

And I second the zip file option. :)

Thanks.

Edit to add: Hm ... seems if I'm really fast on my mouse work I can right-click the download here option and get the scripts, but if I let the automatic download start then I can't get any file. Hope that extra info helps.

I'm unclear about how to rate the scripts. I see if I move my mouse over the 'rating' stars, they change color. And if I click, then a certain number of the stars stay that changed color. But if I move my mouse over them again, then they all change again. At what point does it recognize my 'vote'???

David W. Richardson

Also, am I only going to be able to see the rating's I've made? Is there any way to see what others have rated the various scripts?

What you're seeing there, I think is the ability to re-rate. From the sounds of it, the vote that's recognized is your last one on any given script, whatever it may be.

I like the new system -- very convenient and easy. The voting system works for me (Firefox 3). Oh look, I've already got a perfect 10! :)

I am having a problem (with Firefox 2.0.0.16) that any time I click on a script to view it, I get an error in the auto-open system, but if I right-click on the "here" link (that's supposed to be used if the download doesn't start after 5 seconds) before it tries the auto-open, I can get them just fine. Just thought you should know. :)

You have less than 50 posts, therefor are ineligible to vote unless you submitted a script of your own. If that is the case, PM Larry R and tell him to approve you for voting.

Also, I would suggest reading the first post in this thread.

Just thought I'd mention that the auto-download thingy isn't working for me either, but clicking on the link (within 5 seconds) works fine.

39 entries. not great but not bad.

at least it will be easier to get through them all...

Issac, I have less than 50 posts. My frist script fest. Do I PM you to get on the voting list?

mine is "The Black Book" not sure how many votes on it yet. will be checking.

I will see about getting a zip together sometime today, depends on my workload here at the office.

Penguin and Fraug - I just updated the database with your thread links, sorry for missing those.

Those of you who PMd me saying you couldn't vote, I've authorized your accounts to allow you to vote.

I added additional verbage to the initial post to explain how the rating works. I initially explained the "rating", but not the stars. Now both are explained. Sorry for any confusion.

Regarding the downloading problems some of you are experiencing, at the moment I'm not sure what's wrong. This is the same code I've been using for the past 5 or 6 film fests with no trouble. I will try to look into it today, but how quickly will depend on my workload here at the office today.

If you have any other problems/questions, please don't hesitate to bring them up. I'll try to respond to them as quickly as possible. Unfortunately my internet was out at home last night (should be back on tonight) so I was unable to respond to any issues until this morning when I got into the office. Hopefully it didn't cause too much of an issue for some of you.

Hey Larry, just wanted to add that I keep getting a 404 when I try to download any of the scripts.

Thanks for the heads up ... your second post caused me to realize what the problem was. A MAJOR oversight on my part.

I'm terribly sorry, but the problem should be fully resolved and downloads should work as expected now.

Hey thanks penguin ... your $20 is in the mail

Seriously, it's nice to know the effort that goes into these fests is appreciated. It's a lot of work, but the payoff is huge. I think we have built a very successful place to share, collaborate, learn and grow. And I'm glad to be a part of it.

Now get to reading ... and good luck

Whoo! I am actually on my way out to get a cavity taken care of (local anesthetic = aaagghhh!) but as soon as I finish this last script I am going to get to work reading and responding. The work is definitely appreciated!

Yea! I just finished reading and rating all of the scripts! My house is in total and utter chaos, and my 5 year old is not yet registered for school...but first things first! One thing down anyway.

Everyone did an awesome job! I was very impressed overall.

is it possible to see ratings given other than the ones we gave ourselves?

I don't think so. The point is to give a rating based on what you think is right that is not influenced by other people. I am not saying you would let this influence you, but think about this also: how many people are voting? Several. There would be so much information and no good way to organize it. If you want to know what your script is getting rated, wait until after voting closes and (if you don't place) PM Larry for your position. At least that is how it worked for TimeFest.

I read them all and rated them all. Very impressive lot! I learned more by reading other people's scripts than I did trying to figure it out myself. different ways to pose scene headings (the word "continuous" would have helped me out immensely, LOL) and hearing the feedback.

Now, I can go back and read the feedback on other scripts. I feel like I am way behind on everything in my life. :)

was OK in full zip file - maybe the linked (single file) had issues

Larry Rutledge

Oh, right ... the zip file. It would be fine there, but the individual download had an issue. I guess everyone got it from the zip file, since I didn't hear any other complaints about it.

Glad to know it was still accessible.

Sorry guys - I read and voted for the first half of the scripts but then I lost my internet connection for 24 hours and couldn't finish before time was up. Damn internet provider!!:furious3:

Wait, voting is over? Noo! That was a big oversight on my part. Fitting, I suppose, for a fest that requires a mistake. Please accept my apologies, however, I will still read and comment on them when I can.
