legal question

Hey, folks...

I was editing some footage and noticed there is a movie poster in the background of one of the shots. You can also see the title on the poster very clearly.

Is this legal? Is this considered "common use" or whatever the hell, since it's the sort of thing you might see anywhere? Or do I actually need permission to have the poster in the background?

If so, I'm screwed, as the festival deadline is next week and there's NO HOPE of pickups.

thank you gang!!!

BJ

ps. if a mod moves this thread, please move it where it will get answered--thanks!!!

I think if I'm not mistaken...its ok as long as you plan not to make money off the final product yourself or depicting the poster in a bad way..I think you should be allright..I dunno..I'm no lawyer though.

Hope this helps

throw it in after effects and change it the main title and picture...change the hue of the background color a bit and leave the rest. If you send me that 1 clip i can. piece of cake

Thanks, guys!

I've decided to use the "pivelate" fx/bezier, and intentionally distort the poster; it should add to the plot...

we'll see!

Good way of dealing with it.
