This will be my first feature, provided everything remains on track, knock on wood.
So I would love to ask a few things before I embark onto it. BTW, it will be 1080p DVCpro HD from the HPX-170.

The first thing that comes to mind is storage. I now have two 640GB raid0's and two 320GB single drives internal. My guess is I have plenty provided I can clear all of it up for the project if need be. I was thinking about keeping it all in the raids and having an external back up, hopefully two. Right now I have a 1TB external that works as raid0 or raid1. I was thinking about using it as a raid1 which is what I normally do and getting a second one as I am starting to fill it up. The internals are all Seagate 7200.11 drives and the external is a WD consumer type hdd... if I needed more space I guess I could upgrade two of them to ES.2 1TB drives and sell the old ones or find an external enclosure and use them for backup if I am going to need that anyway.

Second question, and the second thing that comes to mind is monitoring. I want to get a CC'ing production monitor on my station and the only one I can think of that I might be able to buy instead of rent is one of those used 20" CRT 4:3 Sony production Monitors... I can't remember the model number but they go as low as $800 when you find them. So I guess this question is, what is the model number for that monitor and the second part of the question is what card should I use so that I don't have to use the HVX as the digital to analog converter between the PC and the monitor.

If you're going to preview to an SD monitor, firewire is probably your best option. A card with, say, BNC or component connections is going to run you at least $800, if you can get it that cheap.

I personally have an Intensity Pro connected to a 32" LCD HDTV via HDMI. But it may not be what you're looking for if you want the production-studio quality of a pro CRT monitor.

Well I remember hearing about and reading threads on these white little boxes... can't remember the brand names, but there were two of them. One was white, the other I think gray or yellow... can't remember. They were about $200, both of them were about the same. Would those work? I only need good color for CCing, though awesome is always better.
:)

And does anyone know which is the model number for the "good" Sony CRT? The one that goes for as low as $800... I remember it had 800 lines I think... and it was advertised as a 20" but in actuality it was only 19" viewable.

Oh! And just so that I don't forget: How could I preview the clips without any lag? Should I render sections and drop them on the timeline? It would have to be of the size that the monitor can display I guess and it would have to be into a codec that I can play back smoothly and that doesn't mess up the color... ?
