Ok, I'm looking to possibly get a new camera that shoots 24p, and possibly 720 or 1080p. I've been looking at the Sony HVR-V1U, I also have used this camera at work and am wondering if because it can shoot 24p, can it shoot 1080p? I only set back I can see is the HDV mode of 1080i, but would the progressive scanning then replace interlaced scanning? Does anyone know if this is how the process works, or can 24p onmly be achieved in DV mode and such?

Thanks

You have to tell us your budget. The best 24p Digital cam should be the Genesis, or the new sony F35. Followed by the Panasonic HPX3000 that's almost a tie with the F950 Sony cam. The Red One should be very, very close to this two. rate it lower due to it still being "evolving" and requiring some workflow sacrifices for particular types of shooting. Those should be a non issue in the future. These are all above 50k cameras except for the RED ONE (some above 100k).

In our "Indie"price range the best should be the HPX500, which, assuming you get a used SD Lens (which seem to work very well), could get a working package for 11k (including battery)

At the Bellow 10k price range you have both the Canon XL-H1, the Sony EX 3 and the Canon Xh-G1 (an HD-SDI enabled Xh-a1)

For Bellow 6k, its a battle between the HVX200a/HPX170 and the Sony EX1.

And for the Bellow 4k Price range, you have

The Canon Xha-1, the Panasonic HMC-150 and of course the Sony's (z1, Z7, etc). However, I wouldn't recommend a Sony camera in this price range.

As for the others, search the forum and try to learn more about the cameras before posting questions. These are constantly discussed, and you will probably know more by reading those threads then by waiting for replies here.

Also, check out on the screen grabs/footage sections for examples on works done with these cameras. Some excelent work is done in sub 2k cameras, like the Canon Hv20, for example.
