Say I wanted to have 3d text move with my hand while I move my hand as if the text was teathered to my hand. How could I accomplish it?

You would have to keyframe the motion. There's no motion tracker in Vegas.

Yup manual would be the way to go. This is like something in that Will Ferrell Movie where he happens to hear a voice narrating his own life. The opening sequence has an amazing version of this effect. Too Bad i dont remember the name of the movie.

What does have a motion tracker?

Boris FX and Boris RED. Works really well. They both have Motion Tracking, Stabilization and Corner Pinning. They both plug into Vegas (although the motion tracking must be done in stand-alone mode on the actual clips). They also have an outstanding Chroma Keyer and lots of other FX. RED can even remove a moving object from a shot. Boris FX doesn't do text (Boris Graffiti does text) so you will need Boris RED (which is Boris FX + Graffiti + more) if you want to motion track text.

IMHO having one of them is a "must have" tool. I have Boris RED and I love it. Saves me hours of manual key framing.

Hahahaha, so I went out and got Boris RED after some lengthy research. Now I just need a tutorial to teach me how to create 3d text and how to motion track it. Thanks for the advice, this software is unbelievable.

Your Impressed with Boris ????
What sort of system are you running it on ?
A super computer of some sort ???
I have a Core 2 Duo 3Ghz with 4 GB ram and an Nvidia Card.
Damn software was so slow running that it was almost irritating.
Vegas Flys on my system. I edit uncompressed SD Video most of the time with realtime preview.

Hahahaha, I'm running on a mainly overclocked custom PC, it runs pretty quick, some lag time and slowdown here or there. Does anyone know where there is a tutorial forBORIS RED to have text motion track and move with something onscreen?

Now I just need a tutorial to teach me how to create 3d text and how to motion track it.

I can highly recommend the Complete Training for Boris RED 4 (http://www.borisfx.com/training/dvd/red4_dvd.php) by Steve Oakley. This will show you everything you need to know. People who buy Boris and don't buy training are the one's that complain that it's too hard to use. You really need to invest in training to get the most out of it. It's quite easy once you understand how the interface works.

There are also some video tutorials (http://www.borisfx.com/product/red/video_tutorials.php) on the Boris site and the tutorials in the RED manual will show you how to make 3D text. Don't forget, Boris RED contains Boris FX + Boris Graffiti + more so any of the Boris FX and Boris Graffiti tutorials will help you learn RED.

Adding 3D text is easy, just press the icon with the extruded TT that's labeled Add Extruded Text. Motion Tracking it is a little more complicated. You need to add a Motion Tracker filter to the Text. Then load the video you want to track into the Tracker and open the Preview Window on the Tracker to set the tracking point. Finally press the Analyze Motion Tracker button and it will track the motion and the text will follow.

Once you see it in a tutorial it will make more sense. The power here is that the tracking video does not have to be the background video so you could actually track using a different video than the users sees.

After effects has a motion tracker as well. That's what I've used.

For low cost motion track of 3d text try Blender 3d and Icarus.
