Upper track contains some imported .png files which are actually the video co-pilot muzzle flashes. Lower track contains the footage. In one part, the guy shoots fairly low, towards the bottom of the screen.....when rendered, the muzzle flash protrudes into the black letterbox area!!!!

Footage is HD 24p from an HVX - 1080., 16x9

help!!

Is this on a 4:3 timeline? (Seems like it must be if you're seeing a letterbox on 16:9 footage.)

Or, did you crop the 16:9 footage to a wider aspect ratio?

Either way, whatever is above it will still have the full height of the track to play with.

Can you post a screen shot?

What settings did you render to? Did you render to an aspect ratio different from the project?

Did you crop the muzzle flash PNGs to the aspect ratio of the project?

Hey David, the project is a 1920x1080 timeline so it is 16:9. How can you configure individual track height?

I have not done the final render yet - just spot renders here and there. I did render it as an MPEG once and watched it on my TV, and there are black bands, as I suppose there should be. Screenshot soon...

If you're working on a 16:9 timeline and then render as 4:3, as you may have done, you may get some alignment issues like the kind you're describing. Make sure you render as 16:9 and you should be OK.

My bad - render settings were wrong - problem solved!!! Thanks David!

So I should render out to a DVD architect 24p widescreen template - no?

Yes.
