anyone know how to do this? I have a panasonic GS500 and want to do some time lapse footage. from my understanding this just means the camera takes a frame once every 5 min or something and then you can get those cool looking shots where the clouds move really quickly and stuff.

any help on how to do this would be great!!!

i used to own a gs500, i dont think it has a built in option to do time lapse footage. i think the easiest thing to do would be plug it into your computer and have your editing system take a frame every 5 mins or so...

but who knows maybe the 500 has a built in option i didnt know about? check in the manual(which im sure you already have...)

my only other idea would be to capture housr and hours to tape.... but yea not so much a fun idea...

A lot of people use digital still cameras to do time lapse work. This is because time lapse is really hard on the mechanisms in a camcorder -- the constant startup, shutdown, startup of the drive assembly is not so good for the camera. But a series of stills laid on a timeline suddenly become a time lapse video. Pretty cool!

thank you both for those suggestions. I am going to try both and see what works best. Looking for software now that can control the timer so i dont have to sit there all day taking pictures :)

I'll post back with the results.

doing it with a still camera will also give you hd or higher resolutions...with a vidoe camera you will have to be tetherd to a computer if you are looking to do longer than an hour and that setup could be clunky.

Ok I need help with one more thing. My digital camera doesnt have a "webcam" mode so it cant take pictures while connected to a PC, it just becomes a mass storage device.

However my GS500 does have a webcam mode and can capture when connected.

How bad is it on my video camera to leave it setup and use software to have it do time lapse stuff?
