Hey ho; I've heard some lo-budget film types are setting up their own telecine's at home: I'm talking mini dv to film (not the other way around). People are shooting right off their home LCD monitor's and getting nice results (so I hear). My mini dv footage (shot from my fab DVX 100B) has subtle lines through it on my monitor though.... I have one of the last G4's with 800 fire wire. Not intel, not a quad; nothing too fancy. I'm wondering if I need to upgrade my monitor so I don't have the lines then I can try the home telecine process.... any thoughts on that my friends?

If the problem is ONLY in the monitor then I don't see the problem... However, if the problem is with the TAPE then you may have a bigger problem.

try a different monitor. If the problem persists then consult a doctor.

what would this process be? just getting a 16 or 35mm cam and shooting the lcd on from your camera? that sounds very unreliable if thats the case

Filming off a monitor used to be called a 'Kinescope' and it was offered by some Motion Picture Labs

It was usually full of screen pixels and lines when viewed at the cinema.
