Not having seen the TZ before, I youtube'd one of the original episodes, The Obsolete Man.
Interesting - I had no clue the show was originally shot in b/w. This is getting me excited! I might enjoy this fest after all.
So, after watching my first, what's your favorite episode?

The one where the dude stops time with a stop-watch whenever he pleases. Of course, there is an ironic twist at the end but I won't spoil it for you. Sorry I can't remember the name of the episode but the guy takes a bite of someone else's doughnut... great stuff.

The episode "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" with Bill Shatner as a salesman on a plane who sees a gremlin on the wing is my favorite. I'm one of the few around here to actually see the damn episodes when they premiered. I was 10 and all the televisions were black and white back then. Scared the bejeezus out of me.

I totally agree. This one was so good that they remade it. It is funny when people say that William Shatner can't act. He was wonderful in this episode. What was that other one he was in?
And... I'm so old I saw it when it was new too! :crybaby:

I've seen so many but I can't remember titles other than the famous ones.
I like Eye of the Beholder a lot. The episodes that make social commentary while also being entertaining are the best ones to me.

Loved the b/w. Not so much when the switched to color (I have the same problem with Perry Mason. Loved the b/w not the color).
My personal favorite is the 1960 episode, A World of His Own.

I like the one where the lady is getting attacked by little aliens and at the end we find out the aliens are american astronauts. That one was cool.

"Nick of Time" if my favorite episode, too. I used to have nightmares when I was kid about the little devil bobble-head from the top of the machine.

Oh man, Five Characters in Search of an Exit. Forgot about that one. Anyone who feels they don't have the resources to make a compelling film needs to watch that one!

Yeah, Nick of time is probably my fav too. I've made several references to it in discussions about this fest. Probably the best written one, really riding the line between is it real or not. The writing's so good, not even Shatner can kill it. :)

Well here are my top 5... Of course I don't remember ever disliking any episodes of the show. I used to watch the marathon ever year and would stay up all day and night just so I wouldn't miss one.
1. Stopover In A Quite Town
2. Nightmare At 20,000 Feet
3. Mr.Dingle, the Strong
4. Eye Of The Beholder
5. To Serve Man
I have a ton of other favorites but I guess I would say my next two favs would be.
1. The Hitch-Hiker
2. And When The Sky Was Opened
Thanks for this thread it made me think real hard about this awesome show and got me amped up to pull off something great.

I just sent back to Netflix "Treasures of Twilight Zone", which included Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, and a very controversial episode (at that time) with George Takei.
but the best part was a Mike Wallace interview with Rod Serling just before he began production on the series. extremely fascinating in historical perspective. I recommend it.

One of the best shows ever. I watch the marathon every year. Most of the great episodes have already been mentioned but my two favorites are:
"Nothing in the Dark" - with Robert Redford - great episode. It was my final project for my college class - 'Death as a Fact of Life'
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734603/ (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0734603/)
But I think the best episode is:
'Shadow Play'
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_Play_(1961_The_Twilight_Zone_episode (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shadow_Play_(1961_The_Twilight_Zone_episode)
It's not as well known as the others and it's not shown that much but it's a fantastic episode.

The Twilight Zone was a summer staple for me, back in the days before Fox and UPN and the WB when there were actual independent TV stations. Channel 50 out of Detroit had the Zone at 11 and 11:30 every night, and hearing the theme still gives me the feeling of warm summer air blowing in my bedroom window as I watched. Bonus was when it followed the annual Planet of the Apes Week for their nightly 8 pm movie.

i don't know what it was called but....
the one where there is this guy who loves to read. he loves to just be by himself and read but is unable to with all the distractions of life. then one day an atomic bomb goes off and kills everyone. he survives and it seems that he is all alone. he finds food to last him and the library intact. all the books he could ever read. paradise. then he drops his glasses that he can't see a thing without. while trying to find them he steps on them and they break.
oh the irony....
