Hey guys,
Thanks for the replies! Dang it...I totally forgot to reserve spaces after my first post...what a newbie!!! :D
We had such a good experience on TSM with Timefest getting to know some of the people on here a bit better we want to do it again!
Got a good script lined up and if we can get the crew/cast/locations we will do it.
Rogan and Hazelwould...if we do the project I'll definitely try and hook up with you guys!!!!
Let's get the ball rollin' people... :)

Brad,
Funny you should mention it. IMDB has a new "Indie Theater" where you can upload your films. I just uploaded God and Country yesterday! :) The only thing I dislike is the quality sucks...but until I can find a way to make it fit on Vimeo (seprate sections...?) or the like it will have to do.
WATCH IT HERE:

Larry,
Thanks for the suggestion! I think I will just make the initial post work...I'll place any vital info/updates there...it'll force me to keep it fresh! :-D
Thanks!

Hey guys,
Thanks for checking it out! I just talked through the project with my DP yesterday and am looking forward to getting things underway!
Still need to do some location scouting...oh yeah, I guess I need to find some actors too...man, this sure sounding like a lot of work... :D
Guess I should be getting this thing produced instead of checking this forum 864 times a day! :)

Hey so is Eric Meisner DPing this short?
pia12254
07-29-2008, 01:44 PM
Yep, Eric Meisner...the one and only! He said someone from Plano had contacted him about DP'ing their DVXFest film...is that you guys? I figured it might be as you are the only ones I know of from that area.
Hopefully it works out with his schedule...he is aboslutely PHENOMENAL and the only reason my films end up looking like anything halfway decent!
If you guys need a hand let me know...
Later fellas.

Yea it is! I am really looking forward to working with him. I've got the script (rough) set, and have pretty much scouted the locations.
I'm sure we will need the help! I'll def. let you know! I'm really hoping we up our game for this short.

Yea sure... I'll see what I can come up with. I know of a couple sweet abandoned warehouse locations in like Celina... I've thought about shooting a short there. You'd probably need a generator, lots of lights and permission from the owner ;)
pia12254
07-30-2008, 09:47 PM
Sweet dude! That might be promising...
I know...the only problem with awesome locations like that is the fact that there is usually no power...and not enough money to rent a real generator! :D
Any leads on abandoned hospitals (or older hospitals under renovation)? Come on man! What am I paying you for?!?!

Hah! I wish I was getting paid... Something. ANYTHING! :) Maybe one day my crazy desire to make films will actually pay off.
You might try these small towns around here, there are like 100 within a 10 mile radius of Denton/ Frisco. I would call an old shop in those towns and just ask if they know of any old hospitals. Then contact from there... Or just get in contact with some small hospital. Just a thought.

Any luck finding a location?
pia12254
08-07-2008, 10:13 PM
Man, funny you would ask. I've been trying to do some research on the web...
I would LOVE to find an abandoned/closed hospital...or at least one that is doing some renovations and has a wing closed down (or something comparable). Ideally it would be older (the creepy, 70's horror film kinda vibe). Anything come to mind? I found some stuff online but it will take some work to track down who owns what and then get permission...
A friend told me about a hospital in Ft. Worth that is unused except for the 3rd floor which they still use as a psych ward...talk about creepy! At least the crew/actors would be "in the moment". :D
Also, got an actor on board for the lead that I am excited about. I have seen some of his work but never got to shoot anything with him personally. His name is Marc Jeffreys. Headshot posted on Page #1.
Hopefully I'll slowly get more stuff posted on here as elements come together...
Late!

Marc almost looks like a less creepy more mature Paul Reubens... :) Wicked!
That hospital sounds awesome!
How did you go about casting Marc? I've gotten a few bites for my short on craigslist, but I'm wondering if there is something I'm missing locally... I know the actress in TSM, worked on another friend's short called "The New Position." She did a great job in that. I'm needing a lead and an awesome makeup artist.

:D That is a funny description of him! Hopefully he fits the part and I think he will. I actually met him through mutual friends and have wanted to work with him before but never had a role that fit him. I was at a Dallas Producers Association (DPA) meeting on Tuesday and asked him there. If you have not been you should check out the DPA meetings...great place to meet/network!
If Craigslist is not working for you it might be possible to get the casting call posted on Mandy.com, Texas Film Commission, Dallas Film Commission and then send it to the various talent agencies in town to post for their talent.
Clark,
Glad you've seen both of our films (and liked them)! I'm really hoping to take this one to the "next level". After seeing what Fat Monster did with O2 I want to challenge myself and the team to make this professional in every respect.
Let's see what happens! :)
Late,
Daniel

This is really funny.
I was just reading about Twilight Fest a couple days ago (i know im way behind long story)
And i was like you know this is my kinda genre maybe i will actually enter this one, So i was thinking of ideas to write a script for it when bam! i remembered a script i read awhile back that fit perfect.
That script was PLACEBO.
So just yesterday i looked it up again and got Martin's contact info, I was thinking about talking to him about using the script, I was just debating about trying to write my own concept for the fest or going with his.
But low and behold i hop on here today to look up other people's projects and i find that Placebo is on the list. What are the odds? lol..Great minds think alike i guess.
This is one of my favorite short scripts so i really look forward to seeing you do it, your working with a solid script that really fits into this genre.
I am curious to see how you work in the "Ball" though.
Good to hear you cast your lead, now you just gotta get a supremely creepy girl and you will be set.
Good Luck and i look forward to reading about the rest of production.
pia12254
08-22-2008, 01:29 AM
Topher,
That is wild!!! What are the odds...glad you think it fits the genre and that you like the script!
Funny you would mention the "ball" thing...I just got an email from Martin (the screenwriter) today and he was like "Hey, I saw that they have a requirement for the ball and I actually had an idea originally that incorporated that." So, I guess that means we are gonna be ok! :-D
I have been working on a friends film all week and there is an actress that I met who is really solid and I think would be a perfect part for the girl!
More updates to come...

Hey Daniel,
Congrats on the find...
I'm trying to iron out a place to hold auditions... Any ideas?
pia12254
08-23-2008, 11:26 AM
Oh man...we have held auditions all kinds of places in the past (some better than others)! :D
I used a place called S.T.A.G.E once...although I had a friend at the time who was a member and so we got to use it for free I believe. But they might let you "rent" a room for the day for cheap. It is an acting school so they might also send some actors your way to audition.
We have used the clubhouse area at an apartment complex before, hotel meeting rooms, production houses, my house...usually I just start asking people I know if they have any ideas. Just tell everyone you talk to you need a room/waiting area for a day and preferably someplace quiet and safe (i.e. not an abandoned warehouse down a dark alley). :) Even an office building after hours or something would work.
Hope that helps!

Well...I just took a job that is going to take me on the road for the next 10 weeks. So, it looks like this will have to be put on hold. We are obviously going to miss the deadline for this one unfortunately.
However, I am still really excited about the film and will obviously post it on DVXUser once we finish it. Look for it in the User Films section!
Best of luck to everyone who is able to compete in this one! Looking forward to watching all of them!!!
Peace,

Aaron, fortunately for you it does not affect Meisner's availability! :D As far as I know he will still be around town...
Michael, thanks for the comments and I fully expect you to take 1st place in this fest. Seriously!
The gig is going on the road with the Women of Faith tour (www.womenoffaith.com). It is actually about a 6-month tour but I am only coming on for the end of it. It is the same guys that brought me on for the George Strait '08 tour this past Spring. A good group of guys so it should be a lot of fun!
Thanks Gabe! I think he will be a good fit for the part once we actually get around to shooting this thing!
Ciao.
