The script is done! (although there might be a little tweaking here & there...but really...small stuff...honest...)

8/12/08
Not much to report, as I have been working on the other film for the fest. I'm planning on shooting this one mid-september. Standby for future updates!

9/6/08
O.K., back to work on this one! Revisited the script and turns out it did need a few tweaks.... I think we're there now. One last little part to fix-up and it will be locked. I'm heading out to scout a few possible locations today, if I see something promising I'll post pictures.

9/8/08
Script locked! Contacted a local actor I'd like to play one of the parts...awaiting his response. More location scouting this afternoon. I REALLY need to find the right place.

9/13/08
Looks like I found the right location for this one...old, crappy building out in the middle of nowhere!

9/23/08
O.K., after losing one of my cast members (no, he didn't die...just backed out on me!)...and putting a couple ads on Craigslist, I have auditions set for this Thursday night! Looks like a few good prospects for this late in the game. There's a little part that will require a voice over and I just sent the script off to my friend (who's a great voice) to record for me. Props are next & I'm working on the storyboards and shot lists over the next few weeks. Still planning on shooting October 11th & 12th...this one is going to be tight!!

9/25/08
Excellent! Had final auditions tonight and I have my 2 actors! These guys are really into it and did a great job for a cold read. We'll have at least one rehearsal (2 if I'm lucky) and be ready to shoot Oct. 11-12th. One more piece falls into place!

10/1/08
Alright, I have most of the props together and we're scheduled to 'dress' the set this weekend. We will also be shooting some establishing shots and other fun things on Sunday (can't give it away here). I created a really cool trailer, but we can't post them, so once the fest ends, I'll stick it up here somewhere for those interested. In the mean time, here's a peak. (remember, this will be a weird one)

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=186 http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=187

10/2/08
Great rehearsal tonight! It's looking like we'll be able to nail this one. These guys have very limited film experience and have really surprized me. We review not only the dialog, but talked in depth about all the shot I'm going for on this one. This will be an agressive shoot for me and will be the first time I'm shooting with the M2, so I'm sure there will be plenty of challenges.

10/4/08
Today we got to dress the set, Mike (one of the actors) & I loaded-up the truck and off we went to location. This was an easy day and it looks good. I must say, it wasn't a big deal, but I was glad Mike came along... we could talk and I could explain his character...and start to block shots as we fixed the place up! Shooting tomorrow....lots to get ready yet!

10/5/08
LONG day... but the shoot went great. The actors really appreciated how organized I was & love to see me with a shot list. I guess both of them had worked on other films in the past and they were just a mess. No one knew what they were suposed to be doing. The extra help I lined up never showed, so once again, it was a solo act...thus the long day. It gets tough when you have to load all the gear, unload all the gear, set-up all the gear, direct & shoot all day, break down all the gear, load all the gear, drive home & unload all the gear again! Damn, days like this really make you feel your age....but once you get to look at the footage...it's all worth it! You have to love this stuff. I took some BTS shots, cause I know everyone loves to see the gear! I'll post a few shortly...and some grabs too. Please standby....

A few quick grabs from day one:

10/15/08
Second shoot went off with only a few hitches! We got everything we came for & I have to really thank my actors for all the effort they put into this. I was even surprized that they both offered to stay around after the shoot and help break down the gear, load & unload! The help was welcomed after a 10 hour day of non-stop shooting. If you're following the thread, you can read about the "Llama" incident...like the Sheriff incident from the previous day of shooting wasn't enough! This was a very interesting day for me, as it was the first time I really got to play with the 35mm adapter, different lenses & the follow focus. Got some real creative shots too (I think... but you'll have to be the judge there). This is the first film I've ever shot using the M2 35mm adapter on every shot. I also use a little footage for the D90. This is a handy little camera to have around on a shoot. You can get places the 'big rig' can't fit.

Interesting story from day one, as promised...

So, it started off as a beautiful day. The gear was all set-up, light was in our favor and we started shooting according to the shot list. So far so good...but the real fun was about to begin. We reached the point where we needed a shot of the van driving down an isolated road. When scouting, I realized that as a kid we always rode our dirt bikes on the power lines....they went on forever & we never had any trouble…so...it was a no-brainer.

We packed up the van with the actors, the custom made ‘kidnap’ hoods, duct tape, the camera & tripod…and off we went to find the a spot where the power lines crossed the main road. Once we found the spot and made sure no one was watching, a quick turn had us on the old power line. Keep in mind; this is the dirt road that runs under the power lines. Now things have changed since I was a kid and needless to say, nature happens…so as soon as we got out of sight of the main road, we encountered DEEP overgrowth. I don’t mean just some weeds…no, that would be too easy. We hit pricker trees that were all bent over and on the road from resent storms. We had the windows down and the driver figured he could just blast through. As he stepped on it, we hit a patch of trees that just about covered the entire front of the van! Branched came flying into the windows and were ripping at our flesh…remember the prickers? The sound was nasty…branches scraping along both sides, sounding like the worst ‘finger nails on the chalkboard’ you’ve ever heard. Then there were the scream of everyone inside as we all got cut-up…it was nasty & very funny at the same time!

Bloodied all…we reached the spot I picked out for the shot. We got out of the van and everyone was tending to their wounds…pulling prickers out of skin…applying Band-Aids (I couldn’t believe it, but one of the actors always carries Band-Aids in his wallet…I guess for just such occasions!). I was just about to get the tripod out when the bushes all around us started to rustle…we were all like deer in the headlights.

Out of the bushes, from all sides surrounding us appeared 4 Sheriff’s in camouflage, guns drawn telling us to freeze and keep our hands where they can see them! Talk about surprised.

…to be continued.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Continued…

Flashback to before we left for the power line road. In an effort to save time…and we weren’t really going that far, I (genius that I am) decided that it would be best if we left our actors hands duct taped for continuity. I had an idea and thought we could just shoot it quick while we were there…if it worked out, great…if not, won’t hurt the story. We would un-tape their legs and remove the hoods, because that was an easy fix before we would shoot the stuff I had in mind.

Back to the power line road…

Please allow me to draw a mental picture for you all… here stands 4 men, ranging from their mid-30’s to late 40’s, the actors hands are duct taped, one is in shirt & tie, the other has a bowtie on, out in the middle of nowhere…all standing with their hands over their heads, bleeding with band-aids, leaning against the van!

I have to say; from the Sheriff’s point of view this must have looked odd to say the least.
Shaking in my boots (this really was scary) and being the filmmaker, I would do all the talking. I politely address the officers and was promptly told to shut up. (that didn’t work so well..)

One of the officers began to ask each of us for ID. This was a problem for the actors (I’ll be writing a new book on how to impress new actors with your filmmaking chops soon if anyone’s interested?). They were in costume with hands duct taped …no ID! Finally, I got to speak… but then again, I had ID (remember filmmakers, always carry proper ID). I explained that we were making a short film and these were my actors, the duct tape was part of the story (thank God we took the hoods off!). A little more talking, showing them the camera, replaying some footage and we got things straightened out…I was from the town and they were good guys. (sometimes it pays to be involved in the community) We all had a laugh, once they went through the van and all the gear cases.

Turns out, up here in the northeast, it’s ‘harvest time’….and I’m not talking apples. Marijuana…the killer weed! There just happen to be a big field of it not 30 yards off the power line road from where we stopped. The Sheriff’s were on a stake-out waiting to catch the growers…and here we come in a white van. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time! They released us and reminded me that the power line roads are owned by National Grid and I shouldn’t trespass anymore. What a day…what a story…nothing is stranger than real life.

Jumping back in the van, licking our wounds (both physical AND mental at this point), we turned around and headed back out to the main road. Realizing I still didn’t get the original shot I needed, I talked the driver into stopping once out of sight of the officers. I grabbed the tripod & camera, ran up in front of the van set-up, rolled tape and waved the van by…. That will be the shot you see in my film.

All I can say is what a day….the things we do for art.
(...and if I ever meet art, I'll give him a piece of my mind!)

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=213

All day shoot Saturday...LONG day, but it looks like we got everything. If I didn't, too bad for me, I'll just have to make it work.

This shoot has really been an adventure, like the almost getting arrested by the Sheriff's was enough...and I know this is going to be tough to believe...but we were shooting in a building (garage) out in a field....when suddenly there was a hugh ruckus just outside. I stopped shooting and went to see what was going on. I opened the door & steped out only to be almost knocked over by a bigass Llama!! YES... LLama. It seems the farm next door owns 2 of them and they broke loose. Totally wild! All I could do was stand there and watch as the Llama went running by, chased by a dog, followed by a man on a minibike, followed by 3 young children!! Laughed my ass off.

I just got a rough cut together and will post some grabs & BTS picts tomorrow.
Thanks for keeping track of the thread.

Thing I've learned on this shoot so far:

1.) You only need two tools at a shoot - WD-40 and Duct Tape...If it doesn't move and should, use the WD-40. If it shouldn't move and it does, use the duct tape.

2.) Remember: Everyone seems normal until you get to know them.

3.) If you can't fix it with a hammer, you've got an electrical problem.

I'm tweaking the script some more and scouting locations (I think I have a good idea and will get pictures if it pans out). Next on the list is finding my actors! I'm trying to get a friend of mine to be in it. He's big into theatre here in the capital region and this is the time for all the outdoor productions 'In The Park'. I might just have to bribe him.

I've been playing with my crane, test shooting with the M2 and a nikon 50mm...and reading "shot by shot" by Steven Katz. I learned a lot from TimeFest and really want to try for a much better product this time around!

Thanks for asking...:)

Is that upper state? I think I may have the wrong city.

Nah, don't hate yourself, it's good to go too far, you can always pull back if necessary--unless you walked off a cliff. You did the right thing by not settling for something that was great in hopes of greater great. I respect that. I also think it's in the Bill of Rights.

Shooting Peccadilloes later today....so it's now time to start updating this thread.

Reviewing the script for the 7th time and still feel it needs a few 'touch-ups'. I've contacted a few actor friends that I think would be great in this one. One is on board so far, but the other might not be in town.

I'd like this one to be the first film I shoot with the M2. I think I'm getting the hang of it now, plus I just picked up a 24mm and 85mm lens to add to the 50mm and 22mm I already had (sometimes it pays to hold on to that old camera gear).

I have 2 locations in mind and will post pictures as soon as I lock one down.

That's it for now... thanks for following along.

UPDATES....

Location found and secured! I don't know why this was so tough, but we're there now. This place is out in the middle of nowhere and should work fine. The plan is to figure out how to deal with such an open LOUD (echo) place. The building is long enough to fit all the gear I'll need to shoot this one right (I hope)...and if it rains, no problem.

I have to finish casting and get a schedule together as this one has to happen on a weekend.

I put a link to some photos in the second post.

Time to get to get this second film going.....
Thanks again for visiting!

WELL.... I'm having a few problems here. The guy who was 'really into it' isn't returning my calls. He was perfect for one of the leads...damn! So tomorrow, I think I'll be listing on the local Craigslist.

I'm running out of time here. I have the location and actually found 2 crew members to help out. Still have a few props that have to be made, but that's no biggie.

I'll add these morsels of wisdom to my fimmaker's bible. To think all these years I tried to fix broken electrical gadgets with hammers - satisfying as it was.

Updates & some BTS picts from yesterday's shoot.

First, let me say, it was a long day, but the weather was great and a good time was had by all. Without giving away too much, we shot a bunch of stuff that will be used throughout the film. I think this was a good idea because the actors I'm using in this one are not very experienced and it gave them a really good idea of the process... you know, "Hurry up & wait around".

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=209
This is how I get actors for my films! (the hell with that audition thing...who's got time for that?)

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=210
Then, I start shooting before they even know what's going on...plus the drugs are just wearing off, so you get a certain 'realism'. (don't knock it till you've tried it!)

http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/picture.php?albumid=11&pictureid=211
Once they realize they aren't going anywhere...or getting any food until you get the shots you need...you'd be surprized how cooperative they become...offering to help set-up the crane and all.

This is very interesting, sounds like you guys had a hoot of a shoot (hey, that rhymed).

ZazaCast
10-06-2008, 08:42 PM

(...and if I ever meet art, I'll give him a piece of my mind!)

alex whitmer

And in the meantime, with the officers busy shaking down some filmmakers, a small band of growers were grabbing what they could.

If there is an Oscar for most harrowing story, this would win! Got your blood, bodily injury, guns, hooded and bound actors, and a director that always carries I.D.

I'm still learning. I'm using it with the 100b...I know one thing... the rig gets heavy after a bit! ...and I keep forgetting to turn it on...DUH. So I had to redo a few shots. I'm still experimenting with lenses too. I have a 24mm, 50mm, 85mm and just picked-up a 135mm. I guess one of those director lens things would be nice to use to frame the shot & pick the proper lens. I was using the D90 to get an estimate and it seemed to work.

Yo yo yo Zaza...

I haven't been around lately because my folks were in town last week, so I'm playing catch up now.

Wow... what a great story! Man, I kinda wish I had been there to see that first hand. The best story I have right now is when Highway patrol pulled me over and put me in handcuffs for missing a freeway exit...

I can't wait to see what you put together with this one.

Yeah, this one's been a trip. I wish you were here, I still think you'd have been perfect for one of the parts. One of these days we'll get you out here.
Hope all is well & the folks are healthy.

Yeah...we were getting punchy late in the day...right before the Llama incident. That's Carl, he actually owns the location and made the mistake of checking in on the shoot. I pulled a "Tom Sawyer" and explained how important it is to get good location sound. That's when I talked him into being the boom operator for me. It was on-the-job-training. He'd never done anything like that before...in the end, he really enjoyed it. It was nice to have the help.

Funny thing about film, and specifically these quarterly fests; first, there is a camaraderie here the rest of the planet would do well to follow, the sooner the better. Second, in each fest a few films come along that raise the bar on story, ingenuity and technical merit. I have a feeling this is one of those films.

And ...

It most certainly raised the bar on what trials and tribulations a filmmaker might encounter - Sheriffs and Llamas and Landlord boom operators, oh my!

Well, these are two very different films...and they are all my babies...got to love them all!

The key was being organized, getting an early start and sticking to it. I also worked with Alex Whitmer (who wrote Enchanting Twist & cast it too). All I can say is that I'm a workaholic and I really love filmmaking. I also wanted to shot one film (Twisted) with a 35mm adapter and one without (Enchanting Twist).

Good job on completing both, most definitely. Sounds like you were more organized than most of us, especially given the huge amount of time we had to develop and produce the films. Personally I got complacent about scheduling and it was always "yeah we can do it the week after, no problems" but then that got out of hand. Then again, some of us (me) seem destined to almost always have a late entry that surprises the hell out of us...

AHHHH F*CK! I wrote a little review over here and then my internet connection got lost. HATE when it happens!

Music and story are good, and they fit each other. Love the whole idea, AND they way it got pulled through. I watched the film twice to understand everything, and I even liked it more during the second watch.

The house at the beggining-I so much wanted to see where that middle of nowhere is. There's no total shot (if that's how it's said in english), and though it may not be suitable for tempo at the beggining, I want to see where that twisted house/storage was!

Dialogues are very good, I just didn't like one part (it looked a little bit 'frozen', unreal), sound is really good here, and some transitions between the shots had a little strange effect on me. I didn't mean filters or so, but in-between shot, ot more accuratley, the places where I think they needed to be.

Radio DVX 420:D is a great idea, I would only (gee, how annoying I can get) put some static or unimportant broadcast before the one that affects the story. This is to get a feeling that the sound of the speaker really comes form the radio (not that it didn't looked like that this way).

All in all, I think music+shots are your best, you got some twisted idea there, and I liked the film.

Oh, and if there was juuuust a little more of that twisted part with man and the hoods, I would be overjoyed.:D

Another great job ZaZa. I enjoyed this one as well and might possibly be my fav of the two. I liked a lot of your composition and the lighting fit the bill but my favorite part was your story.

SPOILERS!!!!!!!

A smile came over my face during the radio broadcast because it's an angle we never see portrayed in Sci Fi...the politics of the whole thing. It resonated, especially with things the way they are in the States right now. I chuckled at the very ending. Left me wanting to see more...how everything pans out. Really good job.

Are the guys talking aliens?

So basically I really liked it but my dumbass got lost in the end... if the guys in the car at the end are aliens then ... wow cool story. Technically, I was being nit picky because I just watched piccadillos, however, it really really is a solid pice. One of the best parts of it was the locations and connecting them to your story in your thread.

This had lots of great lighting, I really enjoyed it. 1:12 we see rim on the older guy, and then we you rack to the younger guy, we see backlight on him. Nicely done. I like 3:22, when we see both of them. Very very clever.

What kept taking me out of the "suspension of disbelief" was the scenes of bodies struggling in the van. They looked very unnatural, I kept being reminded these were actors being told to struggle. I think if you would have strapped them to the floor then it would have looked convincing. Or if you would have had them struggle more violently. But all they did was shake their head and hands - it looked funny.

I got the story at the very end, I think - aliens abducted the politicians, killed them off and inhabited their bodies. But there was nothing there that made me care about their plight. I think this will be a common situation throughout all these entries - it's way easier to care about your character in, say, LoveFest.

I think I'm detecting a trend here - most of us need to work on our scripts. There's a fine line between spoon feeding the plot and making it unintelligible. I know I failed to be clear. I thought I was, but most of my audience came back with a "huh"?

good film.

loved the shot at 3.23 where the one guy was munching on a sandwich and the other was a shadow on the back wall. great look.

didnt like the look at 4.10 where the two guys are talking directly into the camera.

not sure about the story in the end, i thought i got it but then read a previous comment which repeated my thoughts and that was wrong. i think i will re watch the broadcast, which i really liked as an idea.

really liked the politics you involved into the story.

Acting was great in this one and the camera angles were great. Awesome use of DOF in a narrative manner. Good dialog, not on the nose at all. THe music is a little weak. Could have been a lot more interesting. Best music was at the very end as the van is driving away.

The nonlinear editing was a little confusing... until the very end of it. The reveal at the end was perfect though and was a good payoff. Will have to watch again.

Title sequences need work since they seem to not match the movie.

All in all a pretty good show which all comes together at the end. Nice work.

Hey Joe,
I think I understand it, but it was a bit confusing. I really liked quite a bit of it, really good shadows and the overall look of the piece. On the con side, I would say that you don't need as many shots of the actors wriggling around with the hood on their heads, one shot is enough. Maybe have the plot fleshed out just a bit more, although that's just me.

Great job, and good luck on the next one!

Thought I commented on this? Maybe it was lost in the blackout...

This was good. I really loved the opening! Grabbed me right away.
The rack focuses during their conversation were pulled off well. Nice political edge to this as well. Something most people stay away from.

The acting was pretty good too!

Nice work.

I am probably one of the few that liked your other entry better. The story didn't really grab me. I liked the opening credit sequence and the rack focus moves, and it was interesting to see the viewpoints of the politicians. I didn't need to see him pee for such a long time though.

Hey Johnny! Thanks for the comments. Sorry you didn't follow the story, but those two guys weren't the politicians, they were the kidnappers. The ones the aliens were going to send to distant planets to learn about new technologies...if they were sucessful in getting the resolution passed. You got half of it though.

I think this worked much better than your other entry. The acting was really good and the whole film just had a much more solid feeling to it. The story was still a little hard to follow, but somehow it didn't matter too much since the dialogs and the cutting backwards and forwards were holding my attention. One small detail worth mentioning - I didn't like the wide angle close-ups of the two characters around 4:14. They didn't really fit with the image of the rest of the film. Thanks for some enjoyable viewing.

Carrying on the tradition from Timefest, the AIM sessions have returned, a live stream of whatever may come out of our heads as we watch your films. Here are Ben Sliker, Brad Mate, and Justin Kuhn's thoughts on "Twisted."

Since for some reason, since we couldn't get Adium, AIM and iChat to all agree with each in one chat room, we had to go to an online chat room for the 3-person chats. After almost being molested by a forty year old man in a chat room for "privates" (ben read private chat), we managed to hop on to the chatzy client, which worked well. Note: Never search "free chat" in google and expect what you are looking for.

Ben: TWISTED IT IS
Jebus: we can watch it when the next fest is over
Ben: yeah AIM transfer suxxors
Ben: ok evrybody rdy?
Jebus: go
Kuhn: yeah
Ben: 3
Ben: 3
Kuhn: ve the otehr for anotehr night
Ben: was that english justin?
Ben: 2
Ben: 1
Ben: GO
Kuhn: OO SPARKLY
Jebus: title needs a little work
Ben: hey ... we did a bouncing ball in a basement once
Jebus: dead inside?
Ben: i bet a zombie comes down the stairs
Jebus: classic
Jebus: im gonna take that as an homage to us cause we did it first. points to this movie
Ben: DANCE BREAK!
Kuhn: TIME
Ben: he was covering in case he wanted to enter timefest too
Ben: EVERYBODY DANCE!
Ben: YAY!
Ben: insert picture of dancing cluds from don hertzfeldt.

Kuhn: MY ANUS IS BLEEDING
http://rianjs.net/images/blog/anus.jpg
Kuhn: in this economy I'm not totally joking
Ben: GET OFF MY JOKE KUHN
Ben: but seriously ... what is going on here?
Kuhn: ummm ...
Ben: is there some sort of closed room election going on
Kuhn: JIB ON THE PISS
Jebus: wow
Ben: WAHT IN THE HOLY HELL ...
Ben: resolution dvx420?
Ben: REALLY?
Kuhn: camera smoke time
Ben: apparently there's aliens tho.... aliens are cool ...
Ben: i remember a running shaky cam through this field las time.
Kuhn: ha ha
Jebus: were aliens necessary? why not make it relatable...you know...with that whole thing going on right now...what was it? oh the poo pooing election
Ben: there's an election going on?
Ben: waht for?
Kuhn: mayor of uranus
Kuhn: I feel that if you're going to have a crazy twist you should set it up a little bit.
Jebus: what was the point of their waiting to kill the guys?
Ben: let's recap
Ben: two dudes talking about economy
Ben: piss
Ben: resolution dvx420
Kuhn: jib piss
Ben: right ... jib piss
Ben: aliens
Ben: murder
Ben: everybody on the same page?
Kuhn: yeah, got all that. it's the movie itself I dont' get
Jebus: ...if they were gonna kill them there was NO POINT TO HOLD THEM CAPTIVE
Ben: which leads me to my next question ... can anyone tell me what happened?
Jebus: nope
Kuhn: not really.
Kuhn: but the dude
Kuhn: i mean those close-ups there at the end
Kuhn: the one guy's was funny.
Jebus: either they were the captives, or the killers, or aliens who "replaced" the captives after they killed them to control the world the way they wanted....where did i see that plot line before...
Ben: HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO TELL YOU THAT THE REPLACER WAS A PIECE OF CINEMATIC GENIUS
Ben: 27TH IN SCI-FEST BRAD
Ben: YOU CANT DENY THE FACTS
Kuhn: bodysnatchers?
Jebus: thats why im going to reference it and our other films at least 10 times per review
Ben: THERE WERE LIKE 30 WORSE THAN OURS
Jebus: i thought we were like 24th
Jebus: 27th is depressing
Ben: WE WERE MIDDLE OF THE PACK IN SPRING 06
Kuhn: I remember watching that
Kuhn: and shi*ting all over it
Ben: we went like 27th-17th-10th-1st-4th/6th
Kuhn: while I sat alone by myself.
Ben: yeah ... where are all those films you made without us? oh yeah ... there aren't any.
Jebus: ZING!
Kuhn: I give you credit your zip ties are like alien spikes but that's about it
Jebus: so enchanted?

Zaza, I'll go ahead and give you sort of a comparative review for this one, because I think you've made some big strides from your last film. You still need to devote some time to your fundamentals, a story doesn't need to be crazy to be exciting, perhaps even latch on to some other scripts, i know that movie poet site as a ton of them. I can tell that you are having fun making films and learning, keep it up!

Like "Enchanting", I liked the use of the short clips establishing the central location, "the garage".

Wow. Lots of dynamic camera movement: slider, tripod tilts, etc.

I found the use of the rack focus during one of the dialogue sequences to be very repetative. At first I thought "nice!", but after the third time, it lost it's appeal.

I liked your use of odd shooting angles, it complimented the "twisted" theme.

I'm glad you provided an explanation of the film here in the thread. I got a little lost once the two captives decided to make a break for it.

P.S. - When I saw the power line shot at the end, I couldn't help but think of your adventures there!

haha, well, to explain. The style of music in the film reminded us of a techno dance party. I LOVE don hertzfeldt animations, and one of them has that little cloud character yelling "EVERYBODY DANCE!", later in the skit, as you can see, he starts to bleed out his anus, but everyone is still dancing for joy.

Now that I look back on it, it may seem like we thought your movie made our ass bleed, which is quite untrue, my anus is just fine (I cannot, however, comment on the status of Justin or Brad's anus). This was just a continuation of a joke, to the point it doesn't make sense anymore and is irrelevant, which is exactly where we like to leave them... :)

Which, if you are inclined, look up the "REJECTED" short film on youtube, you might spot my avatar.

Hey Joe. Finally got to this one. I watched it through once and admit I didn't get the ending at first. About 5 minutes later I'm stting here thinking and 'click'. Delayed reaction I guess. And that explains the scenes that weren't explained during the first view. Cool.

The opening fonts were a bit weird but I guess you were going for that twilight look. They also seemed a bit distracting in the opening scenes.

Oh, and in the end credits I noticed there were several actors with the same name as you.
How weird is that? haha.

Good job though. I liked the story much better once the ending sunk in. Congrats, again.

Hey, ZaZa, good job on this one.

The cinematography was well crafted. I liked the clever framing, use of shadows, rack focuses, etc. The color came across like an experiment that had it's moments, but didn't work for me the entire film. Otherwise, loved the movement of the camera. Well done!

I also liked the acting here. You two leads did a fine job with the material, and that's a credit to you as director (and as the credits list, almost everything else too.:))

Unfortunately, I had to read through the thread to find out exactly happened. It makes sense now, and after another viewing, seems much clearer.

Overall, a fine piece. With Enchanted and Twisted, I see the potential for some more really great work ahead. Congrats on getting two films in. It sometimes seems impossible to complete only one.

It's most certainly disorienting from the get-go. Kept me in my seat.

First, I liked the two leads and felt that they were pretty good oppositions to one another. I also think the structure of the film works much like something along the lines of 21 Grams; the more we get from the present, the more we get from the past.

But, I also think that the music used in the colder sequences felt just a little forced and too much, I guess.

It's interesting the way the two characters set up as almost a socio-political-economical dimorphism, expressing different opinions of philosophy on their current situation and their milieu.

It's not without flaws, but certainly intriguing.

Thanks! I think you were on the nose here. I was trying for a tribal, raw feel in the kidnap music...you know, the struggle, the fight, our animal brain. might have missed that mark.

I appreciate you taking the time to watch & comment.
