We had a pre-production meeting this past Saturday. Brad, my lighting guy, and Mike, DP, brought some great ideas to the table and are really going to make this one kick a** six minute short. Going to do some tests this weekend with fake blood. :Drogar-Love(DBG):

Awright, we finished principal photography this weekend! My sincere thanks to my cast and crew who did an amazing job. A special thank you to Brad Bogus who was the light Master! He also whipped up a special blood concoction that just looked great. Also thanks to Dustin Rogan and Gary French who came down from Waco to help. I'll post some pics tonight. Another big thanks to Mike Pedro who DP'd and came up with some great shots.
We've got to do a few pick ups this Saturday with a few things and then we're done and into editing.

Alright, finally got it edited and sent to Justin for scoring! Actually did pretty well on Time, 5:30 beginning to end credits.
Boy each shoot is a real learning experience. When you think you have enough coverage, shoot it again. I ran into some sound issues which I never would have thought would have been a problem. But just little things like water running while an actor is talking, which made sense with my initial cut in my mind, but once I got into it, it made more sense to cut it a different way.
Oh well, great experience, and it looks pretty darn good if I say so myself!

the gas conversation didn't really serve the story well. The generous use of expletives, something I am not against, seemed a bit awkward in the delivery. These are minor complaints given the brilliance of the pay off.
At first I was thinking about the price of gas and all that then the robber came in and I thought it was going to be three nice old ladies change the bad guy. Then the end!!! That was great. It made me think of the old Twilight Zone episode where the aliens took people back for food.
Ah, how I miss Texas - where calling someone a Democrat is slander! Awesome. I also enjoyed "A-rabs" and "Granola Lady".
Nice little film you put together here. Has some wrinkles to work out (as have been pointed out, so I'll skip them), but I liked the story and the pay-off at the end. The women were fun to watch, even if their delivery wasn't always smooth. Thanks for sharing.

I loved this. Ok technically this wasnt top notch, but it didn't metter - it was super fun. I actually started laughing from the point the intruder came in and started swearing at everyone; the filmed turned at that point and we were all in fits by the end of it.
really refreshing. thank you.

What a crack up!
SPOILERS
My only issue with this is the ball. Didn't quite attach to the whole story.
The conversation was pretty classic. Good 'ol suburbia view of what life might be like outside the town limits. Always someone's fault. Love it.
Storywise this one really holds together.
One odd shot of the stove when 'tea maker' gets up. And finding the envelope as if surprised in a glass cupboard was a bit too convenient, but minor details to keep in mind. Maybe stuck somewhere betwenn the stove and counter and it's found when a tea bag drops or something. Give it some mystery.
I really love the 'count your blessing' addition. Very funny.
I think your actors did a nice job. The robber was a little stiff, but in all a good character. Nothing like hunger and charming ladies to soften a man.
Nice job on the theme.

Great flick! This is currently topping my list for story.
Can't say I share this sentiment.
I laughed out loud when grandma said "bitch" and revved the chainsaw, but I was still really offset by the interlacing, awkward edit, and unconvincing acting.
Using grandma can be a fun story to tell friends, but her performance (as well as her two friends) was far from believable. I agree with bosindy... the gas conversation with the Arab reference seemed unnecessary. I found myself skipping through your film before going back and watching it.... which is never a good sign.
Lighting seemed alright. I suggest better color correction, cinematography, as well as writing. While I enjoyed your pay off (and agree that it was laugh-out-loud hilarious), I think your film suffered from too many other maladies to really gain my approval.
Tighter cuts, man! There was TOO MUCH SPACE in between the lines of dialogue. Pacing was waaay off.
The only thing really going for this flick is the bloody ending. Funny, but not enough for me.
Thanks for sharing, though. I did enjoy some parts of this.

I'll be honest, technically it's not that well done, but I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT! This is the single hardest heartiest laugh I've had this entire fest! VERY "Tales From the Crypt" conceptually (a show of which I am a HUGE fan of). This might sound bad, but I'd love to see it redone with some money behind it and a bunch of seasoned techies workin' your crew. This was so d**m funny. I wish I'd thought of it. Great job.

The most effective plot switch-up so far. Love how the pic transitioned from a ‘tired sigh’ into a clever play on audience expectations. Loved the three actresses. Saw what you were doing with the static shots and the move to the handle-held helter-skelter camera moves. Didn’t work for me, but I got what you were going for. Then the bed scene was just fun.
I’d like to have had the movie end on the “who’s the bitch now” line. Felt like the ending dragged after than. Whatever is in our mind about what gonna happen is probably a lot more gory than what actually took place. Plus, I felt like it was more complete without the recipe on the table. I mean, we understand that they’ve done it before. All in all, a good one.
p.s. You’ve got some interlacing issues throughout the movie. Audio editing cuts roughly too.

Thanks for the comments everyone, I edited it myself and I'm not an editor. I'll probably have another one of the crew re-edit and color correct. There just wasn't enough time. But hey, any and all critical comments are welcome! It will definitely help with the re-edit.
Oh, and is there a setting to reduce that interlacing? I used QT from FCP to compress.

Hi Kyle,
I use FCP latest version which I think is 5.04. Used Quicktime to compress, (but not Quicktime pro) I'm at work, so I can't see what my specific settings were, but I'm guessing that running it through QT Pro would have cleaned that up quite a bit.
I'm going back to do a more refined edit and tighten it up a bit.
thanks!

OMG. Ha ha. That was the best laugh of the fest for me. Love the Evil Dead 2 style granny shot.
I was cringing at the fbombs flying around the older women. Then, it all made sense in the end. Nice twist. Great actors, very natural.
The technical aspects have been covered, so I won't get into that. I have to agree that ending on the blood splattered wall would have been perfect. The body gore and the last few shots seemed to linger.
Overall, very entertaining. I can't stop saying "Who's the bitch, now?" I'm looking forward to your next film.

Hey,
Just caught the flick. I really enjoyed this piece. I thought the story worked and your structure for it was really fun. Completely and totally out of left field. I like that you didn't set up the way it was gonna end, like we were just watching three old ladies run through their daily routine.
The story worked for me but I thought it needed more. We don't know the point of the daily special and I think the could have helped. Was it something that keeps you youthful? Was it the tastiest thing in the world? I just felt like the beginning with the cards and the gas and all of that seemed a bit tangential. There MIGHT have been some indication of them being older than they looked (talking about the time before cars, etc.) but that was still a bit ambiguous. The writing, in that sense, could have been tighter.
I also would have liked some slightly higher production value. Maybe different shots and more of them. But I thought the actors were great and it looked like they threw themselves into the roles, which is just great. Up the production value and I think this, and any of your future pieces, will be very strong. But thanks for sharing. I enjoyed this and was thoroughly entertained.

Thanks for the feedback Danielleus. Yeah, that's what I was going for when Barbara says, "We didn't use to have to drive here and there."
My ultimate goal with that was to do a quick green screen shot after the credits with the three of them flying on broomsticks. But we didn't have the resources to pull it off.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah it is an abrupt switch, and I think it kind of worked. What we were going for was to totally change the pacing and mood of the short up to that point. I think Mike did a great job as DP, but I think we might have achieved the same feeling if we kept the camera locked down. Thanks for the feedback.
