Looking for some talented VFX people.
And it's pretty much official - we are shooting 16mm on an Aaton LTR.

Anyone a concept artist here?
Mattykins

Work farmed to concept artists.
Contact with writer established.
Working on getting in touch with VFX houses and Practical effects houses.
Everyone is under an NDA. *gasp*

Assuming the title fits the story, keep it. It's a great one.

I like the title, same as a rather famous TZ episode (though originally a Shakespeare quote from Hamlet). Will the tie-in be similar to either?

The title came from a Song from the HALO franchise. I only found the link to other stuff after the fact.
And you better believe it Tom. There are a lot of talented people working on this right now. I am terribly excited.

Not me! Bwahahahahaha!
I just wanted to stop in to say that I am working on the script at this very moment (well, not this VERY moment, but you get the ideas. :D) The story is quite complex, and with my writing style I am finding the initial draft to be quite thick. I will have it done tonight, if I had to guestimate, I would say within and hour (but don't hold me to that!)
Matt, I figure I will send it over to you in all its glory and you can tell me what you want and don't want.

Thanks Pauly,
Too add, I am waiting on a very important facet right now - that being concept art. I hope it comes through like it should. Right now I am waiting...
Second draft should be in soon. Then I get to start pre-viz.
Mattykins
07-30-2008, 08:24 PM
Concept Artist bowed out after contract and NDA was sent.
Script is still awaiting a second draft. I need to put my VFX team on hold...
ConspiracyPenguin
07-30-2008, 09:11 PM
The VFX team is going on hold because the concept artist blew you off, right? Now because I haven't got the second draft in? It should be done tomorrow!
Mattykins
07-30-2008, 09:37 PM
Its because of the concept artist. Haha
The design of the creature is dependent on that, not the story. You are still fine Nick. No worries. :)
ConspiracyPenguin
07-30-2008, 10:16 PM
Excellent, I was all worried that I was holding you up and I felt bad. I am just trying to churn out new scripts, and what with the new puppy, the car and all it is hard to get everything done. Don't worry...
Mattykins
07-31-2008, 04:36 PM
Nope, you are only holding up PreViz. Haha

VFX team? Ummm, who is that now? haha. If I'm (or the fat dudes) are not on your team, it's gonna suck, let's face it. Just pack it in now and throw the towl in.
Oh yeah, that (VFX guy) Mike Pedro (not Mike Petro) guy might be back. He's good.
Anyways, will watch ma man. Have fun.
Mattykins
07-31-2008, 05:46 PM
I've gotten bites from a lot of people, including C.O.R.E. Expensive stuff.
I might end up doing most of the VFX shots myself. Though I can't animate my way out of a paper bag.
Really, the majority of the people involved are to design the character, rig it, and texture it. I think I will composite it and do everything else. Unless FMF bites on it. Asked Mark, and he didn't have suggestions.
I do need a VFX supervisor. I've never done a CG integration. So, I am kinda lost.

You don't have to worry about this falling through because of the script, you have a dependable script writer. The revised draft should be to you in a half hour or less.
I hope this works out after all!

Mark and Tim found out the hard way just like you did. Their short for Dramafest (I think it was) was lacking in the production value department. The acting was absolutely superb (I was in it ) but it was just sort of thrown together in about a week.
It's a hard lesson to learn because you really have to prove yourself to others that you can make good stuff; at the same time, it gives you that kick in the arse that you need to really push against your limits with future projects... which is definitely a good thing.

Too bad you are on the opposite coast.
Good news I am trying to figure out a way to get to LA next summer, chill there, semester in Ithaca, back to LA for a year and a half, back to Ithaca for a semester, then back to LA. So I will be around on the other coast in due time.
It should be good if it comes together.
Tom Marshall
08-06-2008, 08:31 PM
You're the one on the wrong coast though... :D
That really would be cool if it comes together. Make sure you keep me up to date on how it comes along.

Contacted the DoP today. He might sign up. Talented guy.
I was talking to him and we are thinking of a shooting ratio of 30 to 1. Which is insane. Looks like we might switch over to a V1U for this.
Turns out - to save money - I am going to be doing all of the visual effects. Here's to learning how to model in two weeks!

If you pull it off in time I guess that could raise the VFX/animation bar up a few notches for a DVXfest.

17 thousand dollars for the model? Cmon. Who are these rip off artists?
I know a guy that can do that quality of work and better in C4D. I don't know what you would offer but I can track him down and send info if you want for you guys to talk.
Mattykins
08-10-2008, 07:28 PM
That was indeed the cost for the model, rig, and texture. That was the high-end.
Gord.T
08-10-2008, 07:39 PM
It is a big job. I think I can find a modeler, rigger and texturer also.
I'll pass on what info I have on who replys within the next week.
I'll just pass on the names of the guys that can do the job, based on thier past work, and provide links to those.
It must be rigged & textured for Maya specifically then?
Mattykins
08-10-2008, 07:45 PM
Maya ideally...I don't have any experience in other platforms.
I did a round of recruiting already. And almost everyone was just out of reach financially. Any help though would be great though.

Musicians Friend - it was a cheap bugger, but it worked really well on the test. Filled the room with fog really fast. I was surprised. Haha - didn't cover the smoke detectors so I was afraid they would go off.
