How do I record 720/24p straight onto my laptop hard drive. I have a wedding shoot on the 16th and cannot afford a firestore. Is there a way that I can set up a tripod and a small table and record a wide shot of everthing going on from the top balcony using my camera and recording straight to my macbook pro hard drive??? please help me out. If any of you know how to do this please give me some step by step instructions how to do so. Thanks

You can run WinXP using Bootcamp on your macbook pro (as long as it's new enough that it has an Intel processor).

This can be done with:
1. Final Cu Pro 6.x
2. HD Monitor
3. Scopebox
4. On Location in Bootcamp
Pick your poison, but remember you need the FCP DVCProHD codecs for any Mac recording

Just run a firewire from the HVX200 into your Mac, and you can record directly into Final Cut Pro. You'll need to go into log and capture and set device control to non-controllable device, and set the speed in that same dialogue box to match the speed you are filming in. From there on it's just as if you were capturing from tape..... it will keep recording till you hit pause, and create a Quicktime file of your movie.

However, this won't work with any pNative settings.

I have done this several times... once final cut pro crashed and we lost eveything for that angle..... defintely not as relible as there other options IMO

Yes. you do have to stop recording and make sure you get it broken up into pieces so if things crash you will only loose one paticular piece. As david also notied you can't have native modes during the recording.
you can do this straight to the macbook via FCP and it's pretty reliable for the most part, but I'd say to cover yourself by stopping and saving as you go. Maybe every 10 minutes or so.
