WASHINGTON, DC-BASED INDEPENDENT ARTISTS “THE SPEAKS” TO PLAY LIVE ONLINE INTERACTIVE CONCERT TO WORLDWIDE AUDIENCE -- USING CISCO TELEPRESENCE, DIGITAL SIGNAGE AND LAUNCHES “SPX MOBILE”
WASHINGTON, D.C., July 9, 2008 – On Friday, July 11th, independent music will be available to a global audience via the Web as D.C.-based artists “The Speaks” perform for their fans at The State Theater in Falls Church, VA., USA. By working with industry leaders Cisco and a team of sponsors and new media solutions providers, the artists have created an immersive, multiplatform “Speaks Experience” which will include live online video, a new mobile website called “SPX Mobile,” digital signage enabled by Cisco® Digital Media System and a unique after-show session with the band via Cisco TelePresence.
Using the power of the Internet, the band can now connect with their fans on a global basis while providing a compelling marketing platform for their sponsors. Dubbed a “global online music event,” their July 11th State Theatre show will be streamed live online and promoted via www.thespeaks.com and other media outlets. The show will be fully interactive, with blog updates, real-time messaging with the band during the show and more. Additionally, “The Speaks” mobile website is now available for their fans around the world offering a range of free downloadable Speaks content such as ringers, screensavers, show schedules, SPX Fans pictures, video clips and more.
The Cisco Digital Media System will be used to provide fans with an exciting online media experience of the performance plus provide sponsor logo placement and other information during the show. This powerful platform includes a digital signage, desktop video and enterprise TV solution, all centrally managed over the network. “The Speaks” will also use Cisco TelePresence, which provides a “like being there” video and audio meeting experience, to conduct post event interviews and discussions with sponsors and participants about the online event. Both products are key components of Cisco’s business video strategy, which combines systems and services, using the network as the platform, to enable end-to-end, any-to-any video solutions that create powerful visual networking experiences.
In 2005 The Speaks signed a distribution, production and publishing deal with Warner Music Group Philippines, with the album release ‘Life’s A Joke” in the Philippines. As a direct result, their second single off the album “High” received an unprecedented amount of airplay, staying #1 on the longest running radio chart in Asia for two months, and the music video gained regular rotation on MTV Asia, MYX, and several other music video channels. Their latest effort, the long awaited EP entitled “This is the Time…,” is scheduled to be released in Asia by Universal/MCA-Philippines on July 21st – through hard work, the Internet and sheer determination, “The Speaks” have been able to build their music careers and a global fan base without major label support in the U.S.
Raf Toledo, lead vocalist for the band said, “We are elated to work with Cisco and all the people that have rallied around us to produce this ground breaking event. In the past, it has been nearly impossible for independent artists to achieve global reach for their music and performances. We hope this Web 2.0 Internet event will help everyone see how the latest technologies and production solutions can drive growth and value for the fans and the music industry.” Go online to www.thespeaks.com, www.myspace.com/thespeaks and www.thespeaks.mobi from your mobile phone browser to access SPX Mobile.
Jeff Kopang, VP Marketing for ViewCast said, “We are pleased to enable ‘The Speaks’ live online presence by providing our Niagara® Pro streaming video platforms. Our systems will enable ‘The Speaks’ to broadcast their performance to a global web audience, and it’s great that the band’s fans will be able to experience the event live as a result”. See www.viewcast.com.
Ran Farmer, Managing Director, North America for Netbiscuits, said, “Our team is excited to be working with Cisco and ‘The Speaks’ to launch ‘SPX Mobile' on the Netbiscuits platform at this integrated online event. Our web based utilities take the mystery out of creating mobile content, which is especially relevant for today’s independent music artists and their fans. ‘SPX Mobile’ allows fans from all over the world to stay connected with the latest from Raf and the band, wherever they are.” See www.netbiscuits.com.
