View Full Version : Footage "white" (unviewable) once transferred

I imported my footage shot in HD onto a powerful G5 computer. I then transferred the shots to another (less powerful) computer and the HD shots remain white and unviewable. I encounter this same problem when I want to watch HD shots on my Powerbook.

is there a program out there?

Thank you very much.:Drogar-Mark-01(DBG)

do you have final cut installed on these machines? fcp is required to view dvcproHD footage.

Actually its not, I don't have FCP and I can watch DVCPRO HD. I use AVID

yeah we have been editing most of the footage we shot in 720p. FCP is on there!

I realized that most (if not all) were shot in 1080i...???

Check in your MacintoshHD/Library/Quicktime folder that the DVDPROHD codecs are present and installed correctly. There should be six of them. Without those, I know you get a blank white screen for all Quicktime playback.

Good luck!

The quicktime folder is empty...? Any suggestions?

Without the DVCProHD codecs that FCP installs, the DVCProHD footage cannot be viewed.

(...) a powerful G5 computer.

sorry to say, but the G5 is already a little outdated. Supposedly even an intel iMac renders quite a bit faster (like 4 times or so) than an old quad cpu G5. I know this isn't a productive answer, but I just had to... ;)

It is weird because I can view all of the DVCProHD footage. All was shot in 720 but the 1080 is not viewable..?

I had this happen to me once on a windows machine running avid. Without knowing your specific QT version and media composer version I can't be sure, but this is a codec problem. You may have to reinstall Avid Codecs LE, or reinstall avid, QT, and codecs LE. The order in which you install these programs is important on the PC, I am not sure about the Mac. I had to uninstall QT and Avid, install QT, install Avid, and then finally install Codecs LE.

interesting. Well as of lately I have just found it is all the 1280 x 1080 sized clips that are unviewable. I just had to run to some actually powerful computers to get them rolling and convert them to 720 clips.

Thanks all.

If the some DVCProHD clips play, and others are white video and don't than it isn't an issue of computer processing power.

Something else is happening.

Also, what do you mean by converting the clips to 720?

I brought them into FCP and exported them as a smaller size. Now they are viewable. So basically, I just lost some of the resolution from the conversion, but it worked I guess. I just can't view the 1080 clips.

Do they 1080 DVCProHD clips always show as white with just audio?

Are you using firewire 800 to view the clips? Also what is the speed of your drive?

Keep in mind that the DVCPROHD codec in Quicktime is Mac-Only unless you have a third-party codec such as Raylight
