View Full Version : greenscreen and wobble test

we found the greenscreen although not perfectly lit, keyed out very well in keylight. And the XDCAM codec held up better than we were expecting, even beating my trusty HVX200 in our testes. Also their was lots of vibration coming from the wobble board, and the camera handled this well to my eye.
Any comments welcome.
Cheers

Seeing the title, The Hair "Half Cut", I was expecting to see a model half-keyed with a comparison of her hair composited and un-composited :-)
Cool concept.
Primatte has a feature called "lightwrap". It lets you control how the background interacts with the foreground elements. In this case you can make the lights in the background "flare" into the talent's edges, the way it would if you shot them against a bright background in real life.
I normally don't care for music like this but I enjoyed it! These guys sound good!

Nice job. The wobble board is definitely a cool invention.
Just curious how you did the marquis in the background.
Thanks for the feedback guys !
Its wired how well the un composited version works isn't it.
The boys spent some real time on that background but unfortunately we didn't have much time for the final composite and this is only a first cut really.
will deff check out primatte thanks for the tip mate.
Boy this camera is sharp though ! I was amazed compared to my old trusty HVX.
cheers

The Light walls were masked colored solids behind a replicated (motion) light bulb spinning behind some card. I had a couple of guys working on it for over 50 hours.
Very time consuming and I really want to make more use of it somehow.

Great work! The foreground elements are a little dark some times an maybe a bit boringly lit, but all in all a very good job.
What codec du you use to get the footage into your compositing package?

I'm exporting a reference movie from fcp into after effects or motion then export back to fcp as animation codec :bath:

but of course...
haha. Why didn't I see that one coming? The everloving FCP route.
I personally cut in either final cut or sony vegas, but do comp work in Eyeon Fusion which is Windows only, and thus FCP codecs are no-go...
Just got my EX1, som i'm looking for a good workflow.

Matt, I'm curious when you were capturing with the EX1 - Were you recording to cards, or capturing directly to HDD via the HD-SDI port on the camera?
If you were just using the cards it's very impressive to me that it beat the HVX200 given the color depth differences of 4:2:0 vs. 4:2:2.
Can you comment a little more on how / why you felt it beat the 200?

The color depth IS the same. It's 8 bit. The chroma sampling (444, 422,420 etc) is not... These are two different things.
However since the EX1 is full raster it has so much detail that it for instance keyes way better than the HVX which is 422 100mbps, even though EX1's codec is 420 and 35mbps. (Keep in mind that XDCAM EX is a much more modern codec and you can't just assume quality relative to bitrate)
Also grading does not suffer as much from the lower chroma sampling as a lot of people seem to think. It is a bigger factor in keying, but still the EX1 does an amazing job considering its codecs modest bitrate.
I did quite a bit of testing (keylight, ultra keyer, primatte 4) before I got rid of my HVX200, and I can assure you that the EX1 really outperforms the HVX200 in both keying and grading. Hands down.
Couldn't agree more Chagchag !
shocking but true....
