Hey guys,

Just was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of when the first round of voting ends. I'm having a hard time watching everything in a timely fashion. Maybe I need to manage my time a little better but knowing when it ends would help me figure out if I need to rush or not. Thanks so much. (I really don't want to random vote, nor do I want to not vote on a bunch of them).

Anyone else have've a hell of a time (even though it's also a hell of a fun time) watching all of these films? Were really outdid ourselves this time, didn't we all?

I actually got 'em all done the second day they were up. took huge chunks before\after work.

Yeah? Wow. I'm trying to comment on all of them after each one (while it's still fresh). Maybe I need to just take notes and stuff. It's hard for me to stay detailed if I'm commenting much later.

Man, you're a monster. Good work.

1) I, too, comment after watching each. It makes it easier to not forget something.

2) It has already been said that there is no definite end to the first round yet established. The Mods are watching the influx of votes carefully and when they think the majority of the voting is done they will announce the next round and the limit for that.

i'm just not a big fan of the "voting will end ... sometime around next week" sort of thing. what's with all this secrecy/uncertainty? What's to gain from it?

I'm with you on that, ben. But i'm sure there won't be some crazy voting... ends... now! announcement. Maybe the mods are just testing out this new system. seeing how long it's taking?

But, yes these films and reviews are kicking my ass.

I'm about 2/3 of the way through voting. It'll probably take me a couple more days. I guess I should be done sometime Friday.

I have watched all of the entries and posted to each thread and voted. What helped me was the post from Horncastle Timefest notes form (pdf) (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=138750) I used this nifty PDF he made printed it out that way I could rate each film, put down my vote and then check them off as I posted and voted. I just managed to finish up today but it took a while even using this method. Luckily I didn't have much going on this week.

That is exactly what it is. This is a whole new system, and no one is sure how long it will take. There is no reason to be unhappy, there will be ample warning before voting ends I am sure. The Mods just want to make sure everone has a chance to watch and vote. Be patient!

Just my opinion, but if you look at all the last minute entries, there's a decent chance they're just thinking that if they state a deadline, people will wait till that day to finish. Trying to head it off by not giving a deadline, so people will just watch as fast as they can.

Where and how do i vote?In the link that they supplied to view the films... you can find it HERE (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=138712) in the first post.

When you open the link to view the individual movies you will see a star rating on the right hand side. Rate them anywhere from 1 to 10.

I get a bonus star for helping you with this.

Cheers,

Mike

Actually, since you only have 16 posts you are not qualified to vote. The rules state that you have to complete one of two requirements in order to be eligible to vote:

1) Have 50 posts by the time viewing/voting begins
2) Be the submitting filmmaker of one of the entries

Cazcam, you can PM Larry R to get your login to vote fixed if you are eligible. There were some login problems last week.

Who you calling a she? Must be new around here... :thumbsup:Umm... just about everyone referred to Cazcam as a she (judging by the avatar) and they were never corrected. They even went on to comment about having a female filmmaker in the Fest. Just check The Moment After thread. They never corrected them from what I read??

BTW, I've only been here since 2007. How about you? :D

Slimothy, I just wanted to add... this is the second time that CP has indicated to someone that they can't vote. Mistakenly of course. That's why I said to be careful.

Cheers,

Mike

Dammit! I think I am going to stop now. I guess what it was is that she doesn't have a sig banner and I haven't finished watching the films yet so I didn't know. I guess this proves that what they say about assumptions is true. Sorry guys, and thanks Mike!

BE PATIENT. Thank you.

Man, I still have about 25 more to get to. Still can't log in under my user name (BTW-did they get that sorted out yet? must have. do I have to PM a mod? ....I just keep using the 'test' thing to view)

Anyway, there has got to be a lot of DVXers who have yet to get through the 65+ entries also. So for everyone who wants it yesterday....please, be patient.

Just out of curiosity...does the number of votes affect a persons overall rating?

For example, if one film gets 500 votes that average an overall rating of 7 and another film only gets 100 votes but those average an overall rating of 7 does it make a difference?

I'm just curious as I have seen several people post that they are concerned no one is watching/voting for their film. But I was wondering if the number of votes even matters...

Thanks! :)

Good question. Is the final score an average, a total or some sort of weighted average? Also are people voting for themselves? We would prefer not to, but if the total number of votes counts and everone else is voting for themselves maybe we should too!

The exact mechanics of the voting system are proprietary information. The moderators take the responsibility of the vote very seriously.

As for filmmakers voting for themselves, we're not releasing any info on the specifics of the voting. I think it's classier to allow others to vote on your film rather than voting on it yourself, especially for those who would assign their own film a "10".

Damn! I votet for myselve (no, not a 10) cause I thought everybody dose it - like if there is voting for a politican party you always see them in front of the journalists pruodly voting for themself (at least here in Germany). :embarasse

And to make it even worse - I can not "unvote" me - there is always at least one star left.

don't vote for yourself, but vote for the other people in your film. If you think your film was good and your crew and actors worked hard. Vote for them. Nothing wrong with that. I wonder if the Coen brothers voted for No Country for movie of the year?

Kind of just kidding around Barry. It just seems like a long 'time ago' we started viewing.

But I would have like to see a time period to vote. I would have like to seen a day the voting ends.

Mark - There will be more information coming ... we are still working out details (and I'm busy making necessary code changes on the back end).
